Job Description

The User Experience/Interface Developer has a hybrid set of skills between that of a Front-End Developer and a User Experience Designer. This position must be able to identify end user goals and work to develop interfaces that meet the identified goals. Working alongside a small team of multidisciplinary designers and developers, this position must be able to create and work through UX wireframing and prototyping, information architecture, and front-end development tasks. The User Experience/Interface Developer will be developing systems that require complex user interaction and accessible, responsive interfaces that adhere to brand standards. This role works closely with our development team to ensure proper technologies and best-practices are in place and with our UX team to deliver an optimal user experience. The User Experience/Interface Developer will develop front end interfaces to support the business process needs for the President, EVPCOO, and Executive VP and Provost senior management areas and supported offices. The User Experience/Interface Developer will report to the Assistant Director of User Experience Design.

Position Responsibilities:
• Business analysis, engaging with stakeholders and supported offices to evaluate and improve university processes, systems, and services
• Designs, develops, and implements web-based interfaces
• Creates wireframe prototypes for proposed solutions
• Helps implement cost-effective technology solutions by determining requirements and communicating them to stakeholders
• Develops consultative relationships with user base to assist with process work that advances their organizational objectives
• Functions as a member of a team of developers and designers who typically work on multiple projects simultaneously while utilizing various technologies
• Develops well documented front-end code in appropriate development environments
• Works iteratively with users to refine the design deliverable during development process
• Gathers system requirements per user interviews and produces project plans for design and development
• Provides technical training and guidance to users and appropriate other staff as needed

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Human Computer Interaction, or similar field of study
• Demonstrated experience working on a User Experience Design team
• Ability to identify user needs, design business solutions, and communicate complex concepts
• Strong knowledge of information architecture, interaction design, user centered design, and
accessibility best practices
• Experience leading design team(s) through project planning and setting deliverable timelines
• Experience in creating visual designs, sketches, wireframes, lo- to hi-fidelity prototypes, design specifications, and other design documents such as process flows and site maps
• Thorough knowledge and demonstrated experience conducting primary and secondary user-research methods including user-interviews and user testing, and applying those insights to persona’s user stories
• Experience programming with a variety of computer languages such as Visual Basic, PHP, C#, C++, ASP, .NET, and SQL
• Experience in front end development using Microsoft development technologies, HTML, JavaScript, and CSS
• Familiarity with object-oriented programming concepts
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration or related field
• Experience with code management tools such as Azure Dev Ops
• Experience with bootstrap or similar responsive CSS frameworks
• Experience with agile development methodologies
• Accessibility certifications
