The Access Specialist assesses and determines reasonable academic and residential accommodations for students with disabilities and provides case management to students with disabilities. This position includes training and consultation with faculty and staff who work with students registered with the Center for Equal Access (CEA). Toward creating a community inclusive of students with disabilities, the Access Specialist leads the department’s assessment process, grant funding efforts, and inclusive excellence efforts.
- Demonstrated experience working with people with disabilities.
- Demonstrated commitment to the Social Model of Disability.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills working with diverse populations.
- Proven ability to work independently and manage tasks.
- Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990; the Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act of 2008; the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 Section 504, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively to produce successful outcomes.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, special education, or a related field; AND one to three years of professional experience working with people with disabilities; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
