Job Summary

Assistant Professor of Special Education: Mild-Moderate Disability Categories with Literacy Expertise

The School of Education and Counseling is seeking applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Special Education with expertise in evidence-based practices and interventions for students with mild-moderate-disabilities, beginning August 2023. We are looking for a colleague who excels at teaching, both in-person and online, in ways that promote culturally sustaining pedagogies; and who prioritizes community engagement and advancement of inclusive practices for students with disabilities and their families, through learning, teaching, and curriculum.

Position Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will serve as a key member of the School’s educational programs and will be expected (a) to teach undergraduate and graduate level Special Education courses each semester; (b) assess and evaluate student learning outcomes, skills, and dispositions; (c) serve on program and school committees; and (d) demonstrate commitment to diversity and equity in education through teaching, community engagement, and advising of student organizations; and (e) maintain an active research agenda in area of expertise.

Education Requirements

The successful candidate will hold a doctoral degree with expertise in Special Education, Developmental or Clinical Psychology, or related field from an accredited institution. Candidates nearing completion of their doctorate (ABD) are encouraged to apply.

Experience
  • A minimum of three years of successful teaching in P-12 environment;
  • Experience in the delivery and management of Special Education programming at the University level;
  • A background in supervision of teacher candidates;
  • Evidence of scholarly activity;
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Individuals who meet the following criteria are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Skills in program development and performance-based assessments;
  • Experience with online teaching;
  • Experience designing and teaching synchronous and asynchronous courses; and
  • Evidence of experience with program accreditation.

School of Education and Counseling Profile

The School of Education and Counseling programs are accredited by the State of Indiana, and nationally accredited through the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). The Clinical Mental Heath and School Counseling programs are accredited through the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).
