Web Content Technician

Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Web Content Technician at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):

POSITION PURPOSE

The web content technician will provide assistance for incoming web requests, reviewing, editing and creating website content, events and news, as well as being involved with overall content planning and strategy for wayne.edu properties.

EDUCATION

High School Diploma


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must have knowledge of methods used to enhance user experience and address technology challenges across the university’s web presence.

Content planning, information architecture, user experience, assignment, follow-up and scheduling on major digital properties (homepage, events calendar, digital signage, etc.).

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Must be detail-oriented, take initiative and possess excellent verbal, writing, editing and proofreading skills.
Knowledge of grammar, punctuation, composition, and publishing processes.

I NTERPERSONAL SKILLS

Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to take initiative and work with a wide range of personalities and work styles. Has customer support experience in a complex organization, such as a large corporation or university and demonstrated willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment.

ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS

Exceptional planning and organizational skills. Ability to accomplish both broad, visionary assignments as well as complex, detailed projects within deadline. Decisive, strong conceptual, creative and problem-solving skills.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

An understanding of web usability and accessibility. Knowledge of organizing and delivering accessible web content to end users.
  • Proficient in digital communications best practices.
  • Understands responsive design and has knowledge of web accessibility standards.
  • Knowledge of HTML.
  • Understanding of web design/development concepts and processes.
  • Experience with media and image editing software.
  • Strong analytical and technical skills.
  • Ability to work with a project management tool.
  • Professional experience with web content management systems.
  • Learn new skills quickly.
