The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Swarthmore College invites applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor to begin in Fall 2023. The candidate will participate in the biochemistry lecture and laboratory curricula, as well as teaching an upper-level seminar on a biochemically-related topic of faculty interest. The ideal candidate would also be able to teach in the organic laboratory. Opportunities for directing undergraduate research are available.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry has 8.5 permanent tenure lines, a Lecturer, four lab instructors, and an instrument specialist. The Department graduates ~15-20 majors in Chemistry and Biochemistry as well as special majors in Chemical Physics and Chemistry Education. Classes for majors are small, students are motivated, and the opportunities for collaboration with colleagues and students are real and abundant. Qualifications

A Ph.D. or ABD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field is required; teaching experience preferred. The strongest candidates will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to creative teaching that speaks to and motivates undergraduates from diverse backgrounds.
