Assistant Director for Employer Programs (FP073A)

ODU is seeking candidates for an Assistant Director for Employer Programs (full-time, 12 month) position. The Assistant Director for Employer Programs designs, implements, and evaluates industry-facing services and programs to advance student and alumni recruitment at ODU. The Assistant Director maintains relationships with employers and supports employer sourcing, employer education, and recruiting events through their efforts. This position plays a central role in a network of relationships that link employers and the campus community to increase the number and quality of employment opportunities available to students.

 


The Assistant Director for Employer Programs generates and curates’ information, resources, programs, processes, and services that increase student and alumni access and competitiveness for full-time jobs, part-time jobs, internships, cooperative education programs (co-ops), practica, apprenticeships, gig/contract work, graduate assistantships, and other forms of employment. In addition, the Assistant Director will participate in CDS services and delivery of programs and support CDS and SEES strategic goals.

Given the nature of the positions in Student Engagement & Enrollment Services that provide support to student services and/or student-centered programs, the employee occupying this position may be required to work during a university closing. There may be occasions where the employee will be asked to work during university closings as directed by their supervisor. These instances may include working from a remote location (i.e., telework, etc.)

 

 

Required Education: Master’s Degree in Human Resources, Higher Education, Human Services, Counseling, or a related field of study

 


Required Qualifications: Considerable knowledge of highly effective employer relations, university recruiting (UR), and corporate recruiting practices, policies, procedures, workflows, and/or techniques. Understanding of basic event planning processes. Working knowledge of career center programs and processes. Considerable knowledge of generally accepted career coaching and/or counseling practices and techniques with college students, diverse adult learners, and working professionals. Working knowledge of career development theories, career readiness competencies (NACE), and high-impact career practices (NACM). Effective presentation and communication (verbal and written) skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively meet deadlines and to provide outstanding customer service to varied stakeholder groups. Working knowledge of personal computers and network environments; word processing, spreadsheets, database software, electronic mail, internet use, and presentation software. The ability to work with current and prospective employers in one-on-one, small and large group settings. The ability to initiate and maintain relationships with local, regional, national, and international employers. The ability to support the career exploration and development needs of students and alumni in one-on-one or group settings. Considerable prior experience in employer relations and/or job development. Some prior experience in career coaching for college students or adult clients.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Some experience working with employers in recruitment and hiring capacity.
