Dean, Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations

The Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations (ISMC) was founded in 2002 as an educational and research unit within the Aga Khan University (AKU). The Institute advances the University’s commitment to academic excellence and social development. AKU-ISMC’s ambitious remit is to carry out highly relevant and impactful research and teaching that can enable future and current leaders to effectively address complex challenges facing the world.

AKU-ISMC is a research-focused institution driven by the belief that academic enquiry and education can enable understanding and positive social change. Informed by the wider work of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), it fosters vital connections with the diverse societies of the Muslim world and its diasporas, for the benefit of many. AKU-ISMC is a UK accredited university based in London, a UK registered charity, and sits within the global framework of AKU and the AKDN.

The AKU-ISMC is looking to appoint a new Dean who will be responsible for the leadership, strategic direction, fundraising, and operational management of the Institute with a mandate to foster leading research and education in the study of Muslim cultures and contexts, aspiring to contribute and bring critical thinking to public discourse. This includes long-term strategic planning, academic development, and the collaborative management of the Institute’s financial, administrative, and human resources.
