Summary

The Department of Health Behavior and Policy are actively recruiting a Health Data Analyst to join their team. The primary responsibility of the position is to provide database development,management and statistical programming and analyses for health policy research projects using large health insurance claims and administrative databases. This position will document and maintain analytic files, conduct consistency and other checks to ensure data quality and accuracy of results. Provide statistical results in tables, plots and graphs for publications and grant submissions.

Required Qualifications:

Understanding of health services research and other outcomes-oriented health research methods. Extensive knowledge and skills with data management, integration, analysis and technical proficiency with SAS and SQL; along with other software and programming languages, such as Stata, ArcGIS, Access, Excel, Cognos.
Must be skilled in creating data applications and writing statistical programs for analytical and reporting purposes. Must have demonstrated experience working with large, complex data files (e.g. claims data, SEER -Medicare datasets), linking and integrating data from disparate databases,and transforming raw data into meaningful finished products.
Excellent communication skills, team-based project experience, and ability to multi-tasking fast-paced environment required. Ability to translate concepts and methodologies into programming languages. Detail oriented. Significant experience working with large, complex data in research environment or health care organization required. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience using software applications such as Redcap and Qualtrics for participant tracking and data collection preferred. Experience developing and reading in SAS and SQL. Documented experience with data analysis, modeling, design and documentation.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree inBusiness, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Health Administration or related field, or an equivalent combination of college and related experience. Master’s degree preferred
