Kettering University is seeking to hire a new Department Head for Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering. The successful candidate will have an earned Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering or a related field, seven years of engineering related teaching experience, and three years of academic leadership experience.

Job Specific Required Qualifications

1. An earned Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering or a related field. 2. A minimum of seven years of engineering-related teaching experience. 3. At minimum, a combined 3-year academic leadership experience serving in a position such as a department head, program director, or equivalent. 4. At least two years of industrial experience or maintaining a strong connection/partnership between academia and industry. 5. Experience with the ABET accreditation process. 6. Effective communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Expertise in any of the following areas: supply chain/operations management, quality/statistics, manufacturing, or human factors . 2. Demonstrated track records in teaching, research, and service at a level sufficient to qualify for an appointment as a tenured full Professor. 3. Five or more years of experience related to leadership, management, and/or administrative responsibilities. 4. Experience with outreach engagement both in the public and private sectors.

Duties

1. Work with faculty and staff to support and sustain both the IME and the University’s mission and vision. 2. Recruit, retain, and promote quality faculty and student-centered staff. 3. Create an environment that supports faculty research and scholarly activities. 4. Work with various stakeholders to retain and graduate high quality IE students. 5. Participate in various recruitment activities to grow enrollment in the IE program. 6. Collaborate with academic departments and support staff to provide an excellent learning and working environment. 8. Maintain ABET accreditation through continued program assessment. 9. Represent the department at the university, industry, and community levels. 10. Collaborate with external stakeholders, such as the industrial advisory board, to continuously improve the IE program. 11. Maintain and manage the departmental budget. 12. Assess faculty and staff performance for promotion, tenure, and merit increases. 13. Manage faculty teaching load levels and class schedules. 14. Maintain strong industrial relations to enhance opportunities for applied research and support for instructional and laboratory improvements. 15. Work closely with the Cooperative & Experiential Education Department to help identify new employer partners and to continue building the relationships with current employers. 16. Work with the Dean of Graduate School and Research to grow the Master of Science in Engineering program (concentration in Manufacturing Engineering). to
