The Opportunity:

Assist the Director of Aviation Safety with ERAU investigations and reporting procedures for hazards, incidents, and accidents. Assist Director of Aviation Safety with On-scene Investigations for accident/incidents. Assist the Director of Aviation Safety with the implementation of all Aviation Safety programs – i.e. Safety Management System (SMS), Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP), Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) Program and Emergency Response Plan (ERP).

Safety Report Submissions (ASAP, event, fatigue reports)
  • Oversee ASAP; additionally, analyze, investigate and provide recommendations for all ASAP, event and fatigue report submitters.
  • Use all available Aviation Safety Department resources for investigations (i.e., ADS-B tracking, FDM program, ATC audio)
  • Oversee safety report trend analysis derived from safety report submissions.
  • Engage in continuous feedback and communication for all safety report submitters.
  • Open, assign and close safety report submissions within the hazard reporting system for effective data analysis and tracking.
Aviation Safety Programs (SMS, ASAP, FDM, ERP and Risk Management)
  • Oversee employee and student drug screening program.
  • Assist Director, Aviation Safety with Flight Department Safety Management System (SMS) program with continuous monitoring and safety improvements.
  • Assist Director, Aviation Safety in the management of the Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) for both flight crews and fleet maintenance, including managing the electronic reporting system.
  • Administer Aviation Safety Department’s expanding Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) program, to include follow-up with exceedances in conjunction with Team Safety Leads and maintenance technicians as appropriate.
  • Manage exceedance monitoring and trend analysis through Flight Data Analysis Software
  • Assist Director, Aviation Safety with the SMS risk management process and oversee frequent risk assessment meetings regarding current/potential/predictive hazards associated within the Flight Department
  • Seek and maintain timely communication methods in keeping with ongoing technological changes.
Aviation Safety Data and Statistics (monthly, quarterly and annually)
  • Manage all Aviation Safety databases and routinely conduct trend analysis based statistics within the hazard reporting system
  • Oversee and manage the distribution of data statistics to key leadership personnel within the Flight Department and COA as appropriate
  • Present aggregate data and trends collected and analyzed through FDM program
  • Provide TSL data specific trend analysis statistics for routinely schedule team meetings
Accident/Incident Investigation support – at campus and on-scene investigations
  • Assist with all Flight and Fleet Maintenance Department incident/accident investigations.
  • Manage the investigative preliminary report process to include factual information and brief summary of incident/accident.
  • Participate as a go-team member for all off-site aviation related incidents/accidents
  • Prepare regularly scheduled team meetings for incident/accident investigation documentation and review
  • Assist with the post incident/accident review board meeting to include lessons learned and any/all Aviation Safety recommendations.
Team Safety Leader (TSL) Training Program
  • Provide new TSL Instructor Pilots (IPs) Aviation Safety Department specific training to include WBAT, ADS-B, FDM, ERG and ATC audio programs for all safety report submissions.
  • Administer and oversee all TSL Aviation Safety specific access program (i.e. ETA, RMS and WBAT) training.
Flight School Security Awareness Training
  • Oversee Flight School Security Awareness Training program.
  • Ensure record keeping in accordance with 49 CFR 1552.23 (d)
  • Oversee internal audits.
Qualifications

Required Education :

Bachelor’s degree. Area of study: Aeronautical Science/Aviation Safety/Related Field ​

Required licenses, certificates, and /or security clearances:

Commercial Pilot License, Certificated Flight Instructor Certificate Preferred

Required skills, knowledge, abilities:
  • Must have knowledge of current 14 CFR Part 61, 91, 141 and 142 regulations.
  • Must exhibit strong communication skills and have the ability to effectively speak with employees/students regarding safety related events
  • Must have effective interpersonal and organization skills
  • Working knowledge of 14 CFR Part 5 Safety Management Systems (SMS)
  • Ability to identify adverse trends and safety related hazards
  • Working knowledge of FAA voluntary safety programs
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher
