Job Summary
Housed within the English Department, the Communication and Film/Media program prepares students to communicate effectively and ethically across a variety of contexts and platforms. Through practical, hands-on training, students learn to create and present evidence-based research, produce professional quality media and content, and understand mass media’s role in global communication.
To support the Communication and Film/Media program, the department seeks a dynamic individual well versed in media technologies, digital communication, social and sports media, web media, and digital journalism. The successful candidate for this position will have a combination of academic and professional experience that can transfer successfully into state-of-the-art digital media academic programs that will prepare students to work in a rapidly changing field.
Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional skills:
· Use a variety of methodologies and technologies to teach undergraduate courses in communication and digital journalism theory and practice, such as interpersonal, small group, fundamentals, multimedia reporting, mass media, sports media, and social media.
· Embrace new and emerging technologies and trends in the communication discipline.
· Plan and organize instruction according to a course’s learning outcomes.
· Provide academic instruction through lecture, lab, or courses; assess and develop cognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher order thinking skills among students through appropriate assignments and activities in one-on-one, classroom, and distance- mediated instructional settings.
· Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and student learning outcomes through assignments, projects, discussions, and examinations; provide feedback in a timely manner to student inquiries in class, online, or during established office hours.
· Maintain current, accurate records of course enrollment, attendance, student academic progress, course curriculum, and student learning outcomes.
Program Development:
· Revise and update course content and instructional materials in accordance with new theory, application, and industry developments within the discipline or area of specialization.
· Evaluate and select instructional materials, such as textbooks, manuals, software, hardware, and tools in collaboration, as appropriate, with discipline faculty.
· Contribute to articulation agreements between CCRI, the University of Rhode Island, and Rhode Island College.
· Develop curriculum with program faculty.
· Participate in program-level assessment, including evaluating student work, analyzing data, and making recommendations.
· Participate in advisory board efforts, such as by identifying potential board members and planning related activities and presentations.
· Engage in department and college wide events for the communication/film/media path.
· Assist with organizing orientation events to support and onboard incoming program students and efforts to retain and graduate career and transfer degree candidates.
· Coordinate work-based learning for program students.
· Mentor/coach program students as needed.
Technical Knowledge/Production skills:
· Competency with Microsoft Office, LMS
· Experience with social and sports media apps and tools.
· Expertise with distribution of content across various media platforms.
· Stay current with the latest trends in media production and studies.
Communication Skills:
· Communicate effectively orally, verbally, and in writing.
· Work collaboratively with program and department colleagues.
· Respond promptly to communication from colleagues and students.
Departmental Support:
· Participate in college activities, including committee work.
· Attend English department and Communication meetings.
· Communicate effectively with English chair and program director as well as related staff to ensure the continued successful operation of the program.
· Participate in department initiatives and events.
· Other duties as required.
Minimum Requirements
· MS in Mass Communication, Interactive Media, Digital Communication, Communication
· Two years teaching communication at the college-level, community college preferred.
· Excellent record of college-level teaching appropriate to rank and experience.
Competencies and Desired Qualifications
The most suitably qualified candidate will possess the following competencies:
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
· Ability to employ best online teaching practices within a Learning Management System.
· Demonstrated commitment to professional excellence and continuous growth within subject field or discipline.
