Assistant Director, Community Engaged Health

Job Description

The Assistant Director, Community Engaged Health will report to the VCE Director and collaborate with the Associate Director: Youth, Families, and Health and the Virginia Tech Center for Public Health Practice and Research Director to build the capacity for and implement a comprehensive community health Extension program. The Assistant Director will develop statewide strategic partnerships enabling VCE to expand evidence-based community health programming critical to the well-being of Virginians. Using a multidisciplinary systems approach, the Assistant Director will identify opportunities, develop teams, and support faculty in securing resources to appropriately support VCE health related programming.

The Assistant Director, Community Engaged Health will:

-Work collaboratively with the Associate Director: Youth, Families, and Health, the Director for the Virginia Tech Center for Public Health Practice and Research, Extension Specialists conducting health related programming, VCE Program Teams, and other faculty to identify and understand programmatic needs to develop a comprehensive VCE community health programming plan.

-Collaborate to build a diverse portfolio to support the applied research and VCE programming addressing the critical health related needs of Virginians. Specifically in collaboration with VCE faculty, the Assistant Director will assemble and lead teams in the development and submission of grant proposals. The Assistant Director will serve as PI, Co-PI or other roles as appropriate.

-The Assistant Director will support translational research and Extension projects through activities such as project management, data collection, data management, and analysis, managing IRB process, communicating project outcomes, and contributions to scientific publications, presentations, and reports in collaboration with healthcare partners.

-The Assistant Director will work with Extension specialists and researchers to support, implement, and evaluate community health research and capacity building initiatives.

-Work collaboratively with Extension faculty and leadership to develop a framework for identifying and prioritizing community health issues in concert with community leadership.

-Work collaboratively with state and federal agencies, other higher-ed institutions, the Virginia iTHRIV, industry, and other entities to expand program reach and impact.

-Collaborate with Specialists to provide professional development opportunities for Unit Extension faculty, staff, volunteers, coalitions, and other stakeholders related to community health initiatives.

-Under the direction of VCE leadership, serve as VCE liaison with key related stakeholder groups.

-Attend health related conferences to build and maintain relationships and to collaborate on proposal development

-Develop relationships with and/or build Extension project teams related to community health leveraging existing expertise in FCS, ANR, 4-H, and community development to engage diverse audiences in community health programming.

Required Qualifications

-Doctorate in Public Health, Community Health, Health Promotion, Extension education, science communication, or related field.

-Proven experience in Health programming implementation in Extension, successful grant writing, collaborative project development, and project management

-Proven skills in science communication and a strong record of scholarship

-Strong record in building and leading diverse teams resulting in measurable impacts

-Proven record in developing relationships across primary health entities such as health agencies, health related industry members, coalitions, etc.

-Ability to work with a wide variety of people including academic colleagues, healthcare professionals, Extension Agents, elected officials, city/county government leaders, graduate and undergraduate students, volunteers, and the public.

-State-level experience in leading Extension programming/projects

$85,000 - $110,000
