The Department of Cinema & Media Studies at Carleton College invites applications for a one-year visiting position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor (sabbatical replacement) in film studies starting September 1, 2023. We are particularly interested in applicants who will strengthen the departmental commitment to students from underrepresented groups.

We seek a dynamic teacher with a Ph.D. in film studies and a record of effectiveness in teaching undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds. The ideal candidate is prepared to teach two core courses, CAMS 211 Film History II (1945-1970) and CAMS 214 Film History III (1970-present), and three elective courses based on their expertise and the interests of the department.

To apply, please visit the Carleton College web site at go.carleton.edu/carletonjobs to complete the online application by submitting a letter of application, c.v., two sample syllabi, and a teaching statement that includes comments on working with a diverse student body. Applications received by March 15th will receive full consideration.  In your letter, describe your preparation for teaching CAMS 211, CAMS 214, and your three proposed elective courses. After passing through an initial screening process, applicants may receive a request for the contact information for three references, including at least one who is able to specifically address teaching experience. The search committee will hold Zoom interviews with finalists in April.

We are particularly interested in candidates committed to teaching a diverse student body. Carleton is committed to developing its faculty to better reflect the diversity of our student body and American society. Women and members of underrepresented minority groups are strongly encouraged to apply. Carleton College does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, ethnicity, religion, sex, national origin, marital status, veteran status, actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, status with regard to public assistance, disability, or age in providing employment or access to its educational facilities and activities.

Carleton is a highly selective liberal arts college with a student body of approximately 2,000. Located in the thriving two-college town of Northfield, Minnesota, it is forty-five miles from the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, in easy reach of a vibrant metropolitan area that is home to three million people and rich cultural resources.
