Job Details
This is a newly created position that will be responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating a comprehensive education program for both youth and adults. The person selected for this position will have wide latitude to shape all educational programming at The Coolidge Corner Theatre in the coming years. The Director of Education is a key member of the leadership team, and an active participant in strategic planning and public outreach.
Reporting to the Deputy Director, the Director of Education will work collaboratively with the Coolidge team to develop and expand the reach of the Coolidge education program, with a particular focus on youth outreach (grades 6 - 12) and adult education. They will be tasked with exposing new individuals and constituencies to the Coolidge and its programming through expanded outreach efforts; creating unique experiences around film and transformational experiences for audiences; and engaging more students and adults with the art of film to create life-long film lovers.
The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience in education and/or program management, will be passionate about film and the mission of the Coolidge, and will possess a forward-thinking creativity that drives program development and outreach. This is a full time position; periodic evening or weekend work is required.
Responsibilities include:-
Key member of senior leadership team responsible for guiding, driving and realizing the Coolidge’s key goals in education, and building opportunities for collaboration both within and outside the organization
Develop, execute, and oversee daytime education programs for students (grades 6 - 12)
Establish and maintain adult education programs aimed at enhancing knowledge about film and film history in our community and developing an enthusiastic and engaged audience of film lovers
Create and teach the majority of youth classes; seek out and hire instructors for adult education programs; work with Deputy Director and Outreach Coordinator to engage community leaders on subject matter to complement film discussion when appropriate
Collaborate with the Coolidge Outreach Coordinator to make connections with teachers, local schools (Brookline, Boston, and beyond), and after school programs
Identify opportunities to incorporate Science on Screen into Coolidge youth education initiatives
Lead the programming team for the Coolidge’s PANORAMA film + discussion series
Design and analyze program assessments for participants, flag improvement areas and address accordingly
Provide guidance and copy support to Marketing Manager for promotional materials to maximize film appreciation and knowledge
Serve as a moderator (from time to time) with guest lecturers and panels
Create materials and lead discussions aimed at complementing the Coolidge’s first-run and repertory programs
Participate in and represent the Coolidge at film- and education-related discussions and forums throughout Greater Boston
Develop, manage and reconcile annual departmental budget
Perform other duties as assigned

Bachelor’s degree or Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (Master’s degree or higher preferred)
At least five years’ experience in education (grades 6-12) or education/public programs at a nonprofit, museum, university, or cultural institution
Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated capacity to effectively and professionally communicate with a wide range of constituencies, verbally and in writing
Ability to build and maintain positive relationships and partnerships with stakeholders
Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment and to carry out projects independently, managing multiple deadlines, taking initiative and flexibility in response to change
Experience planning and managing events and programs
A strong enthusiasm for film and the Coolidge's mission
