Job Description

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic & Community Development and in collaboration with the Vice Chancellor for Advancement, the Director of Corporate Engagement will lead engagement with corporate entities, developing and stewarding beneficial relationships that advance the mission, purpose, and agenda of UMSL. The Director will serve as a liaison between corporations and campus representatives to identify mutual interests and mutually beneficial partnerships that will lead to significant investment in research, programs, philanthropic priorities, and other projects at UMSL. The Director will lead a comprehensive program of cooperation with companies across industrial sectors and academic disciplines, taking overall responsibility for all phases of the relationship from prospect and proposal development, to soliciting and negotiating agreements, to managing ongoing relationships. The Director will manage a portfolio of existing relationships with industry constituents, help identify new corporate prospects, and develop and implement successful cultivation and solicitation strategies for corporate relationships. The Director will actively collaborate with College based Advancement staff, Deans, Faculty, Career Services, and other UMSL colleagues to design and implement strategic and operational plans to build and manage corporate relationships. The director will work across multiple disciplines and will be asked to become familiar with key university capabilities and strengths. The Director will make personal visits to corporate prospects and coordinate related visits by other UMSL representatives.

Responsibilities
  • Promote cross-campus partnerships and interdisciplinary collaborations
  • Prepare and submit proposals seeking external funding, specifically targeting solicitation opportunities of $50,000 or more.
  • Develop new philanthropic partnerships with corporations, corporate foundations, and allied organizations
  • Meet metrics established with supervisor on an annual basis including but not limited to number of prospect meetings, major gift or grant solicitations, dollars raised, and workforce development referrals
  • Convene working groups for institutional priorities
  • Steward funds awarded and communicate impact, ensuring specific reporting deadlines from funders are met to sustain long-term partnerships
  • Connect campus programs with potential corporate partners to cultivate mutually beneficial relationships that yield proposal submissions and gift/grant outcomes
  • Develop and implement qualification, cultivation, and solicitation strategies for corporate prospects and provide effective coordination of activities such as campus visits, site visits, and professional presentations and proposals
  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 40-50 corporate donors and prospects
  • Work with College/Unit-based Advancement staff, UMSL leadership, Deans, faculty, Career Services, and other staff as well as corporate executives and other representatives to communicate and engage with the corporate community around fundraising
  • Disseminate corporate funding opportunities to the campus community and assist in the writing and submission of proposals
  • Develop symbiotic relationships in the local community
  • Deepen corporate partnerships with the goal of promoting connections across the institution as a whole, including engagement beyond traditional philanthropy
  • Host site visits for corporate partners
  • Serve as the policy and regulations expert in this realm
  • Facilitate faculty interaction with Development, serving as liaison among the departments Other duties as assigned.
  • Supervise the daily operations of the corporate engagement function, including budget and support staff.

Shift

40 hours per week/ increased hours may be needed during peak times

Salary

Pay commensurate with education and experience.
Hiring Range: $63,860 - $90,500 Annually
Grade: GGS-012

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree preferred.
  • A least five years of related work experience in fundraising, business development, or a related field is required. Background in corporate relations preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, a proven ability to grasp complex subjects, a demonstrated attention to detail, and the capacity to balance both strategic and tactical responsibilities.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, solve difficult problems both collaboratively and independently, and be creative, analytical, and adaptable.
  • Ability and confidence to ask for and close agreements
  • Strong relationship management skills
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, good judgment, and the ability to work in a team environment
  • Prior knowledge and familiarity with local and national business environments as well as local, state, regional and national research and economic initiatives
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrate and present a professional appearance and demeanor, with a commitment to customer service.
  • Must have the ability and willingness to travel as necessary
