Job Description

The D’Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families ( IVMF ) Program Advisor will effectively support and coordinate advising and participant success strategies for online and/or installation program participants in non-credit online coursework. This position will provide support, coordination, and programmatic advising through telephone, email, and video chat to veterans, service members, and their families; will respond to requests for assistance related to coursework completion and certification exam preparation, employment, and other IVMF programs and services opportunities; and maintain appropriate documentation of online participant success efforts. The position is necessary to be able to provide a holistic and exceptional participant experience, aligning with the scale of the IVMF’s training and certification programs. The Advisors are accountable for advising and supporting all assigned advisees seeking career advice while acting as a mentor in all aspects of the program. Advisors are responsible for all administrative functions for Advising Services and will propose ideas for additional resources and process improvements; further, Advisors support program leadership, as necessary.

This position is anticipated to be filled on a fully remote basis. Not all geographical areas within the United States are eligible.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional career or advising experience and/or human resources recruiting or training development experience in the information technology, HR, or Project Management fields.
  • Prior service in the United States military preferred.
  • Three (3) plus years career coaching or career advising experience.
  • Experience in military skill assessment and the translation of military experience into
    corporate skill sets.
  • Strong customer service background preferred.
  • Familiarity with online learning technology a plus.
  • Proven ability to collect information, maintain discretion, and provide holistic and coordinated support strategies.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, and to foster the success of others.
  • Knowledge of industry certification requirements across Business Management, HR, and IT industries.
  • Ability to actively listen, independently problem solve, and effectively communicate with program participants, colleagues, and the broader university community.
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population.
Job Specific Qualifications
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Understanding of learning management systems and customer relationship management software preferred.
  • Organization, planning and project management experience.
  • Ability to work on a cross-functional team.
  • Ability to remain flexible under shifting priorities.
Responsibilities
  • Provide program advising and support to veterans, service members, and their families who are enrolled and participating in IVMF programs concerning completion requirements and industry certification funding.
  • Develop and implement online participant success, advising, and retention strategies through proactive, reactive, comprehensive, exceptional, and coordinated support efforts.
  • Independently manage a caseload of online and installation program participants and serve as their primary point of contact after program launch.
  • Disseminate advising, university, and military-connected resource information to participants, including industry certification resources and opportunities for additional external support.
  • Conduct skill assessments and create individual development plans based on assessment outcomes.
  • Provide encouragement to advisees through consistent communication, routinely monitoring progress throughout the duration of the program.
  • Independently assess critical situations and determine when escalation is required.
  • Provide appropriate support and referral for participants who are struggling to complete requirements and need additional assistance.
  • Deliver comprehensive and strategic career services support to advisees by helping to develop and formulate job search strategies, reviewing resumes, coaching on interviews, and matching candidates with appropriate job opportunities.
  • Monitor advisees progress and provide regular data on program progress and participation to program leadership.
  • Monitor and complete online documentation throughout the certification process to guarantee all course requirements are met.
  • Work to collect program employment related outcome data.
  • Assist the User Experience Manager to ensure continuous improvement of the program and curriculum content validity based on advisees’ experiences and feedback. Provide quality assurance checks and assessments by regularly cross- checking curriculum offerings with industry developments and standards.
  • Work with University administration and staff, IVMF staff and veteran community and service organizations to ensure strong communication is maintained and the individual needs, progress, and achievements of each advisee are recognized and responded to appropriately.
