Reference and Instruction Librarian – Health Professions
(Tenure Track, Assistant Professor)
Position Summary
Central Michigan University seeks a 12-month, tenure-track faculty Reference Librarian / Health Professions Librarian at the rank of Assistant Professor to join our library team. The Health Professions Librarian reports to the Associate Dean of University Libraries. Serving approximately 15,000 students, Central Michigan University is a doctoral research institution recognized for strong undergraduate education and a range of focused graduate programs and research.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Shares responsibility with other librarians in the Library Research and Instruction Services department for providing reference and research support to CMU students, faculty, and staff, and performing library instruction to classes as requested. Teaches a one-credit library skills course as part of a rotation with others. Participates in collection development and serves as subject liaison for the academic disciplines of the College of Health Professions. Performs literature searches and constructs systematic review searches as requested by College of Health Professions faculty. Proactively communicates and collaborates with individuals inside and outside the library to provide the most effective library service possible. As a faculty member, makes positive contributions toward university service and service to the broader profession and actively engages in scholarly and/or creative achievements. Assumes other responsibilities as assigned. This position may include occasional weekend or evening hours.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications; minimum $60,000. Excellent benefit package available, including medical, dental and generous retirement contributions.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must possess a Master’s degree in library/information science or equivalent degree from an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited program, excellent communication skills, a strong customer service orientation, and evidence of potential for earning tenure/promotion as a library faculty member. This position requires library reference and instruction experience. Applicants must show evidence of the ability to carry out assignments independently and cooperatively. Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications
Subject expertise in a health-related field. Experience working in an academic library or health sciences library. Experience performing literature searches and systematic reviews. Additional advanced degree.
