SCIENTIST III

Salary:

Minimum $85,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Scientist III will lead team science, scientific community development, and collaborative evaluation efforts for two large NIH-funded research initiatives. Team science and community development activities will include advising the Coordinating Center staff on the design of communication, coordination, and collaboration systems; participating in the application of team science best practices to all Coordinating Center activities; and applying best practices in scientific community development. Evaluation activities will included developing logic models for activities, outcomes, and impact of the Coordinating Centers, as well as the initiatives more broadly; working collaboratively with initiative members to design and implement continuous-improvement approaches to evaluation; developing data collection strategies and instruments; collecting, analyzing and reporting on evaluation data; and publishing on the team's approach to evaluation. The Scientist III will also work with the Principal Investigator to develop a community of early-career researchers in MC2, with a mission of increasing the diversity of funded cancer biology researchers from historically excluded groups. Activities will include assessing community needs, developing evidence-based resources and trainings to meet those needs, evaluating outcomes through rigorous data collection, and publishing on the team's approach to community development.

Responsibilities:

Identifies research problems, designs research methodologies, performs and supervises research, and prepares and presents results for presentation to professional organizations or for scholarly publications. May supervise staff.
  • 15% Identifies research problems and develops highly complex research methodologies and procedures. Publishes and presents results to help advance research
  • 30% Collects and analyzes highly complex research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures
  • 20% Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials and, disseminates information to appropriate entities
  • 20% Attends and assists with the facilitation of scholarly events and presentations in support of continued professional development and the dissemination of research information
  • 5% May supervise the day-to-day activities of a research unit and staff and resolve routine personnel issues
  • 10% Serves as an institutional subject matter expert and liaison with key internal and external stakeholders providing expert level information and representing the interests of a specialized research area

Education:

PhD in public health, social science, biomedical science, or related field preferred

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
- Expertise in the Science of Team Science, as demonstrated by relevant publications, presentations at national conferences, or other professional activities
- Minimum of one year of experience with evaluation methodologies and approaches, including development and application of logic models
- Experience working with large research initiatives, multi-site research studies, or science teams
- Demonstrated knowledge of the science of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Anti-Racism within academic research environments
- Experience delivering workshops or trainings to adult learners

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience conducting qualitative interviews, focus groups, or other qualitative data collection
- Expertise with REDCap, Qualtrics, or other survey tool
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills
- Strong interest in biomedical research

It is anticipated this position will be remote and requires work be performed at an offsite, non-campus work location.
