Applications are invited for appointment as Senior Lecturer in the Centre for Applied English Studies (Ref.: 519158), to commence on September 1, 2023, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal.
Applicants must have a recognized Master's degree and at least 10 years’ relevant English language teaching experience at university level, with significant experience in course management and leadership. They must also have a proven track record of successful teaching and learning project outcomes. Possession of a Ph.D. degree would be an advantage. The appointee will be required to: lead and fully participate in Centre development projects and research; take a leadership role in designing, producing, evaluating and revising innovative, research-informed teaching and learning materials; lead and participate in service work, e.g. Centre-wide and Faculty committees; mentor junior staff and assist them in evaluating their performance to help them identify professional development goals; and teach across a range of courses at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
The Centre’s current development plans involve projects related to: (i) academic literacy teaching materials development and pedagogy for undergraduate students; (ii) out-of-class communication support materials development and pedagogy in three strands, e.g. writing, speaking, and digital literacy; (iii) blended-learning materials development and pedagogy; (iv) supporting faculty to create Communication-intensive courses; (v) fostering a scholarship-informed teaching culture; (vi) expanding and sustaining revenue-generating initiatives. For this role, the Centre is specifically looking for candidates who have experience of and can articulate strategies related to digital literacy pedagogy for undergraduate students. The preferred candidate might be required to contribute to the teaching of courses as part of CAES MA provision.
Shortlisted applicants will be asked to give a short PowerPoint presentation about the expertise they can offer the Centre at the time of the selection interview.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
