POSITION SUMMARY


The Analyst, Institutional Effectiveness, develops and manages reports using the College’s Operational Data Store, Data Warehouse and SharePoint BI tools. This position reports inform program and institutional decision-making on topics related to enrollment and student success. The Analyst builds data models, creates research methodology, and applies appropriate statistical analyses for use in data mining, forecasting, assessment, and/or predictive analytics as appropriate to each particular research project. This position contributes as a member of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness; represents institution in multi-college research initiatives such as Achieving the Dream, Foundations of Excellence and others. This position provides support and training to users of college reports and presents results of research initiatives to peers and stakeholders in a formal or informal setting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Analytics


Develops, maintains, and updates queries and reports to fulfill recurring data needs for internal and external reporting requirements; Designs, maintains and manipulates specialized data sets and information systems to support research. Effectively translates user requirements into report designs to support business processes and inform decision making. Creates and presents dynamic reports and data sets to support timely decision making. Develops institutional research designs, conducts data analysis and contributes data as part of college participation in multi-college and grantsupported initiatives. Performs periodic review of written procedures and updates as necessary to maintain a current, complete reference manual, including the maintenance of an institutional research calendar to ensure that cyclical project timelines are met.

Data Visualization & Communication


Designs and creates effective written reports, to include visual/graphical presentation of data through interactive charts, dashboards, etc., as appropriate to a given project. Prepares required internal, local, state and federal reports in a timely manner using the College’s administrative software and other resources while communicating with other College support personnel to ensure uniformity of required system reports. Produces tables, graphs, dashboards, and narrative analysis of data to easily display and summarize college data such as student cohort tracking, enrollments, full-time student equivalency (FTSE), progress and success measures, postcollege employment, etc. Organizes and presents research-based information, analysis and interpretation clearly and effectively, in narrative, graphical and oral modes.

Provides support inclusive of training as needed to other regarding the planning, analyzing, and reporting processes to be used in research. Participates as a member of the office team, providing technical assistance and expertise as needed. Participates in professional development activities, in-campus meetings, and serves on committees, as required.

Other Duties & Responsibilities


Maintains knowledge of current state and national research trends, priorities and programs. Ensures that the college's research models position it to participate in state and federal government or private foundations' studies and initiatives related to increasing student success.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of: database management and data (SQL) querying; research theory; methodology and applied statistics; analytical thinking, technical writing and reporting; design and implementation of program evaluation and assessment; graphical presentation of data; computers, software, including cloud applications, to include Microsoft Office applications (Work, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), event planning software (Reserve, other).

Skill in : research design, writing and presenting for both technical research and general user communities; data preparation and data analysis; software such as MS SQL server, MS Reporting Services, Excel, PowerPivot, SharePoint BI Suite; proficiency in data presentation software for creation, publication or presentation of graphics and tables ; customer service; conflict resolution; general typing; application of job software programs.

Ability to: analyze and present institutional data results and analyses in electronic, web, graphical, presentation, or written formats; plan, organize, conduct and participate in analytical studies; exhibit creativity in developing analytical strategies; analyze and interpret complex data and reach viable conclusions; effectively communicate research in oral, written, and graphic form; excellent listening skills and participant in collaborative work; develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders across the College; effectively work with persons of varying cultures and diversity; problem solve effectively.


Physical Requirements

While performing duties of this job, the employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into computer. The employee regularly sits for extended periods of time, and occasionally stands and walks. Employee converses verbally with others in person and by telephone. Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision when focusing on a computer screen. Employee occasionally lifts or exerts force of up to 10 pounds. With multiple conference spaces as well as meetings across the campus, employee walks outside to other buildings.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in a social science, data analytics, higher education, business, or a related field with coursework in statistics and research methods. Professional training and at least three (3) years of experience using business intelligence tools and techniques. Experience in integrating Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint. Experience with college data systems such as Ellucian (Datatel) Colleague, PeopleSoft, or Banner. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's or Doctoral Degree in Social Science, data analytics, higher education, business, or a related field and at least three (3) years of professional experience.
