Job Summary

Under the direction of the Advising Center Director, advise undergraduate CHHS students in accordance with university guidelines, regarding general education, major, and graduation requirements. The advisor provides critical support for programs and initiatives designed to strengthen the academic success and retention of CHHS undergraduate students. This position coordinates and implements CHHS major specific career services geared primarily towards career exploration, professional development, and collaboration between the CSULB Career Center and CHHS faculty.
Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive and holistic advising to CHHS undergraduate students.
• Create and maintain CHHS career services infrastructure.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Ability to be effective and productive with minimal supervision and to creatively implement new approaches and guidelines where none exist. Ability to operate and execute programs/projects independently in a high traffic setting. Demonstrated skills in program development and administration. Extensive experience in multi-tasking and prioritizing multiple projects while remaining very detail oriented. Ability to embrace a culture of change and apply a continuous learning approach. Excellent communication skills and ability to forge new relationships. Knowledge of and ability to utilize career development theory and techniques in individual and group counseling settings. Ability to utilize knowledge of current principles and practices related to career counseling. Proficiency in computer applications such as word processing, database, and spreadsheet programs; using e-mail and Internet. Common Management Systems (CMS) and web design and web management experience preferred.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience

Required: Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field and two (2) years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas.

Preferred: MA/MS in career counseling, student development, or related field.
Licenses / Certificates

Either National Board Certification in Career Counseling or California Registry as a Professional Career Counselor, and the National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, qualifications, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Hiring Range: $4,610 - $5,583 per month.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,610 - $6,556 per month

Time Base

Full-time temporary position for one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
