Job Description:

Job Summary:

The Dean of the School of Education, Psychology, & Humanities reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs and serves as one of the three academic deans of the University. In this role, the Dean is charged with providing leadership for the curricular, co-curricular, and external outreach programs for the school. The Dean is a visionary with extensive higher education leadership who can provide solutions-oriented leadership and work collaboratively within the school, across the Division of Academic Affairs, and across the University.

The Dean will lead several key initiatives including providing strategic direction for the school in alignment with the strategic direction of the University and developing strategic partnerships with school systems and B2B partners.

The Dean will actively work with Departments to promote, support, and implement diversity, equity, and inclusive strategies to enhance the academic and community experience of current and future Bay Path students, faculty, and staff.

Essential Duties:

Academic Program Oversight

  • With Bay Path's Core Values as a foundation, provide visionary leadership for and effective management of all departments and programs housed within the School of Education, Psychology, & Humanities to envision, shape, and revitalize the academic vision for the University's future.
  • Lead School departments, faculty, and staff in in the assessment of student learning outcomes and institutional effectiveness including the development and annual update of the school and departmental assessment plan.
  • Participate in the development, refinement, and oversight of academic policies and procedures.
  • Engage in initiatives to ensure the creation, development, monitoring, and evaluation of sound, evidence-based curricula and high-quality instruction.

Faculty and Staff Development and Oversight

  • Lead the recruitment, hiring, supervision, mentoring and evaluation of full-time faculty, adjunct faculty, and staff in the School of Education, Psychology, & Humanities.
  • Evaluate School personnel according to established guidelines.
  • Actively promote the professional development of School personnel.
  • Review faculty student evaluations each semester.
  • Conduct ongoing process of classroom teaching observations.
  • Develop and nurture strong faculty community within the School.

Student Enrollment, Success, & Retention

  • Increase student enrollment and persistence at all levels through programmatic revisions, effective recruitment strategies, astute financial aid management and scholarship opportunities.
  • Enhance student success and retention rates are critical priorities.
  • Work collaboratively with the Sullivan Career and Life Planning Center to ensure that students receive adequate career development and job placement assistance.
  • Lead School efforts to provide students with clear pathways to college success and are adequately prepared for graduate school or entry into a profession.
  • Work collaboratively with the Admission Office in the recruitment of students at undergraduate and graduate level and participate in student recruitment events and processes as requested (e.g. Open Houses, prospective student phone calls).
  • Troubleshoot student and faculty issues and act on appeals according to institutional policies and procedures.
  • Analyze the need for student academic support and make recommendations to the Dean of Academic Resources as appropriate.
  • In collaboration with other deans, develop means for assessing student satisfaction and responding to areas of concern.

Resource Generation and Management

  • In collaboration with School faculty and Vice President, implement an ongoing process for the development of and scanning for new curricular ideas and initiatives.
  • Recommend and monitor budget to ensure cost-effective use of available resources.
  • Identify and assist in obtaining new revenue streams to support the expansion of School programs and infrastructure.
  • In collaboration with President, Vice President of Academic Affairs, and Vice President of Advancement, develop and execute a robust plan for fundraising.

Partnership Building

  • Serve as lead ambassador for the programs housed within the School, creating the necessary external partnerships (local, regional, and national) to support student and faculty success.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with school systems and B2B partners.
  • Play an active role in obtaining sites for student internships, co-ops, and other experiential learning opportunities.
  • Maintain an active presence on the campus including attendance at all major University events (e.g. Commencement, Academic Convocation, Academic Achievement Day) and student events.
  • Represent the School of Education, Psychology, & Humanities on appropriate committees and to external constituencies and report back to University faculty.
  • In collaboration with faculty and other deans, identify and actively promote opportunities for interdisciplinary teaching and learning.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Stewardship of college resources (fiscal, personnel, physical).
  • Participate in the development, refinement, and oversight of academic policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all programs remain compliant with state licensure and accreditation requirements.
  • Represent the School on appropriate external committees, boards, and constituencies.
  • Prepare reports and/or presentations for Board of Trustee meetings.
  • Assume campus wide responsibilities as requested (e.g. chair committees or coordinate cross-functional teams).
  • Serve University committees as requested.
  • Attend trainings as required.
  • Attend meetings and conferences as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

  • Earned Ph.D., Ed.D., or equivalent education/ experience in a discipline in the college and credentials appropriate to hold the rank of full professor.
  • Preferred five years of demonstrated administrative academic experience in higher education (dean, associate dean, program director, department chair, or equivalent).
  • A commitment to principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • A record of successful administrative leadership, including oversight of faculty, a record of successfully recruiting and retaining faculty and staff; ability to manage across disparate programs.
  • Experience with multiple learning modalities, including on-ground, online, and hybrid formats.
  • Experience in data-informed decision-making to guide the program.
  • Ability to adhere to University policies and procedures.
  • Ability to handle confidential information responsibly and within FERPA and HIPAA guidelines.
  • All new employees must complete the FERPA, Anti-Harassment, and any other required online training within 15 days of employment.
  • Must adhere to University COVID-19 testing, symptom tracking, and all other COVID protocols established by the University.

  • If you operate a University owned, leased or personal vehicle at any time while performing your duties you must follow all policies and procedures outlined in the Operations Manual. You must have a valid driver's license and must successfully pass the online safe Driving Course and driving record check at time of hire and annually thereafter. Additionally, you must report any driving offense, on or off company time, which causes a loss, suspension, or any other change in your license status. You must report this change within one business day of the offense. You can report this change to the Human Resource Department or your direct supervisor. Failure to do so can lead to disciplinary action, up to and including terminations.
