Johns Hopkins University Press seeks to hire an Accounts Receivable Coordinator who will be responsible for supporting HFS Clients and customers. The Accounts Receivable Coordinator will join a team of exceptional professionals committed to bringing the benefits of discovery to the world by providing global access, impact, and influence for the scholarship that we publish and distribute. This position will help to ensure that the Press is a leader in the selection and development of innovative ideas and scholarship; the creation of pioneering technologies to enhance discovery and learning; and the connection of people to the most trusted knowledge from global researchers, scholars, and educators.

The Press fulfillment operation, Hopkins Fulfillment Services (HFS), services 14 client presses in every aspect of fulfillment services, including order processing, collection management, warehousing, fulfillment, and digital distribution services. An accounts receivable coordinator is required to lead a team of representatives in the management of $20M in gross sales. This is a hands-on position where the Coordinator assists and performs collections duties as necessary, especially dealing with larger vendors (+$1 million annually). These accounts are the most detailed and require a total understanding of all the vagaries involved in the business and must work with and through vendors to ensure proper resolution and payments. Additionally, the AR Coordinator will be responsible for preparing monthly reports to keep the Fulfillment Operations Manager and HFS Director up-to-date on all collection activities. This position reports to the Customer Service Supervisor and will collaborate with the Customer Service Team frequently.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement control systems to ensure the appropriate application of current billing and refund procedures.
  • Prepare monthly reports to inform management of all collection's activities.
  • Research and investigate customer account issues, and monitors accounts as appropriate, depending on investigated circumstances.

  • Monitor and control non-payments, delayed or delinquent payments, and other anomalies.
  • Responds to inquiries and researches and resolves problems related to transactions.
  • Develop, train, and mentor staff. Complete quarterly review and monthly One on Ones.
  • Assign duties to Collections Specialists and an accounting assistant, to ensure timely collection of monies owed to HFS. Additionally, the Accounts Receivable Coordinator may, on occasion, direct the work of Customer Service Reps who are cross trained to provide assistance in the accounts receivable/collections area.
  • Processing payments and credit requests using standard security compliance.
  • Addressing customer/client escalations professionally and expeditiously.
  • Processing requested reporting and other customer and client requests.
  • Weave equity, justice, and inclusion principles into all aspects of the work.
  • Participate in strategic initiatives at the department and Press level.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development activities.
  • Handle special projects as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent required.
  • Three years related experience required.
  • Additional education may substitute for experience in accordance with the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Post-secondary accounting courses / certification.
  • Experience in publishing and/or distribution.
  • Intermediate/Advanced PC and Database experience (especially IBS AS-400 or other ERP systems).
  • Experience working collaboratively with peers who work in person and remotely.

Starting Salary Range: $35,002-$49,335-$63,570 Annually (Commensurate with experience)

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
