The International Services Specialist provides specialized and essential technical, functional, and procedural expertise to enable International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) to provide timely and high-quality service and support to our international population and to our Middlebury colleagues who rely on our services. Serving as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO), the Specialist is responsible for time-sensitive and complex data management within our data systems and the Student & Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) to ensure data integrity and institutional compliance with federal regulations relating to SEVIS and our Department of State Exchange Visitor Program.

This is considered a full time, hourly, benefits eligible position. The hiring range for the position is $22.15 - $27.65 per hour.

Core Responsibilities:
  1. Maintain systems and data continuity and validity by performing complicated data reconciliation and analysis to ensure data integrity and SEVIS compliance within and among multiple database systems.
  2. Sustain and ensure integrity of electronic record-keeping systems and interact with Information Technology staff to keep system operational and efficient.
  3. Generate and review statistical reports to support and accurately track ISSS processes; retrieve data from institutional and SEVIS information systems to produce annual reports on international students and scholars for IIE Open Doors and other purposes.
  4. Perform general advising to international students and scholars by acting as DSO & ARO, including assisting in the issuance of visa-related documents, executing systems-related updates including SEVIS registration/validation, major declaration updates & other visa-related event notifications, and providing travel signatures.
  5. Manage institutional check-in processes for international students and scholars for ISSS and collaborate with other offices to ensure effective procedures for completing payroll, tax, and Human Resources requirements.
  6. Update ISSS website and develop social media in a timely manner with original input and ideas provided by the ISSS team or other constituents, ensuring the information is accessible and understandable to the website user/viewer.
  7. Collaborate with ISSS colleagues to implement programs and services for our international population including arrangements for Pre-Orientation, Friends of International Student host program, employment authorization and tax workshops, and more.
  8. Collectively generate and issue communications to international student and scholar populations or individuals regarding important updates, events, and information.
RequirementsPosition Prerequisites:
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Legal Permanent Resident per federal regulations governing who can serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) or Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO)
  • Highly developed technology skills and experience with office computer applications along with strong organization and record-keeping skills, acute attention to detail, and keen problem-solving skills highly desired
  • Successful record of working effectively with data management systems. Experience with SEVIS (Real Time Interactive), Banner, and Oracle information systems, and Content (or other) electronic document imaging systems preferred
  • Knowledge or awareness of F-1 and J-1 or related visa regulations expected.
  • Must be able to work under pressure with frequent interruptions, meet deadlines, maintain confidentiality, and successfully manage many competing tasks, while offering outstanding customer service in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to cultural and diversity issues expected, along with an ability to interact andcommunicate well (orally and in writing) with people from a variety of backgrounds/experiences.Experience in international education or living, working, or studying abroad highly desired.
  • Enthusiasm for and interest in international education and a willingness to work with data and processesthat have a direct impact on institutional operations and on individuals' lives.
  • Bachelor's Degree required with 2 or more years of professional work experience expected, and timespent in an academic or related environment preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to work long hours on a computer/at a computer screen.
  • Requires some evening and weekend work for events or high-volume times.
  • In-person office presence required (i.e., @campus). After training period, position may be eligible forsome remote work with a majority of time spent on campus.
