Job Details
The Associate Athletic Trainer will be responsible for assisting the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Performance in the administration of the Sports Medicine area and overseeing and coordinating athletic training coverage for all varsity intercollegiate sports teams. The candidate will serve in supervisory role of medical needs for varsity teams that utilize the Drexel Athletic Center (DAC) and Vidas Athletic Complex and serve in the Associate AD, Sports Performance’s absence as needed in relation to Department and University committees or meetings. This position will oversee Assistant Athletic Trainers. Extensive travel is required for six months of the year.
Essential Functions
- Evaluate, care, prevent and treat athletic injuries and related illnesses and inform coaches on status of injuries.
- Determine ability to compete in an event and communicate this to coach and athlete.
- Schedule necessary doctor's appointments and accompany student-athletes to visits as appropriate.
- Maintain injury reports and progress notes for injured athletes.
- Cover home athletic events and practice sessions for intercollegiate teams.
- Travel, as assigned, with intercollegiate teams.
- Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the DAC training room which includes maintaining accurate, organized and efficient training room.
- Perform related duties as assigned by the Head Trainer or Director of Athletics including but not limited to organizing and operating required CPR training for coaches and athletics personnel.
- Serve as the primary Athletic Trainer for assigned sport(s).
- Supervise and mentor 2 Assistant Athletic Trainers in all aspects of sports medicine.
- Manage the process of medical documentation collection, evaluation and review for all varsity student-athletes (approximately 500).
- Direct other assistant trainers to assist in ensuring proper insurance, history, consent and other required documents are collected prior to competition.
- Communicate and file injury claims with Drexel secondary insurance carrier and athlete’s primary insurance carrier.
- Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Kinesiology, Athletic Training or related.
- Minimum of 5 years of collegiate athletic training experience or equivalent.
- Ability to travel extensively six months of the year.
- Up-to-date CPR certification.
- NATA certification; must be eligible for PA licensure.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- CPR Teaching certification.
- Ability to stand, walk
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
