THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Public Affairs and Administration offers two degree programs: a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree, and an M.S. in Health Care Administration. The MPA degree is offered at the Hayward Campus and has more than 200 MPA students who focus on two option areas after completing foundation and core courses: either Public Management and Public Policy or Health Care Administration. The MS-HCA program has over 225 students and is offered at the Hayward Campus and fully online. The MPA and MS-HCA programs are members of the ACHE Health Education Network (HEN) and participate in the California

DUTIES OF THE POSITION: The successful candidate for this position is expected to teach graduate courses in both the MS-HCA and MPA degree programs, contribute to curriculum and program development, assist in student recruitment, advise and mentor MS-HCA students and MPA students with the Health Care Administration option, be involved in developing community partnerships and student internship opportunities with Bay Area health care employers, and participate in program assessment. The students are from diverse educational, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. Candidates should have broad-based expertise in core curricular areas in health care administration and management, including but not limited to leadership, health care policy, health care finance and budgeting, technology, quality assessment and improvement, ethics, grant writing, and strategic planning. Please note that teaching assignments at California State University, East Bay include courses at the Hayward, Concord and Online campuses, as well as other off-site locations. In addition to teaching, all faculty have advising responsibilities, assist the Department with administrative and/or committee work, and are expected to assume campus-wide committee responsibilities.

RANK AND SALARY: Assistant Professor. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Subject to budgetary authorization.

The salary schedule information for the Instructional Faculty - Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:

Instructional Faculty AY ( Range 2 ) - $4,530 – $6,056

Instructional Faculty AY ( Range 3 ) - $5,405 – $11,994

Instructional Faculty AY ( Range 4 ) - $6,190 – $13,172

Instructional Faculty AY ( Range 5 ) - $7,794 – $13,797

The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :
A successful candidate will have an earned doctorate in Public Administration or a related field. Candidates with earned doctorates in health care administration, urban affairs, and other similar degrees will be considered. ABDs will also be considered; however, they MUST have an earned degree by August 2023. Candidates must also have a background in teaching Public Administration and management using an online modality.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
Preference will be given to candidates that have also taught health care administration.

Cover Letter - The cover letter should address the candidate’s experience teaching and mentoring of a diverse student population; researching agenda and how students might be incorporated into the candidate’s research agenda; and serving in department and/or university wide committees, community service and how the candidate plans to incorporate the CSUEB community into teaching and/or research.

2. Diversity Statement - The Diversity Statement should address a candidate’s approach to diversity, equity and inclusion in both teaching and research, and how it has been reflected in the candidate’s teaching and research. The statement should specifically describe pedagogical practices, including curriculum, classroom climate, research, community engagement, and/or mentorship foster an inclusive learning environment. The statement should address how the candidate plans to address diversity, equity, and inclusion at CSUEB.

3. Teaching statement - The teaching statement should address the candidate’s approach to teaching both public and healthcare administration, as well as what courses they feel they could teach if hired. Additionally, candidates should describe their teaching online, both synchronously and asynchronously, and how they plan to connect with their students online. The statement should include specific examples of a candidate’s work helping students of different backgrounds, including first generation and minority students and students with different perspectives succeed. Candidates should also address how they plan to build on that experience at CSUEB.
