Position Summary

The primary function of this position is to help determine academic eligibility to ensure compliance with NCAA bylaws, and progress toward a degree for approximately 400 student-athletes participating in 16 different Division I sports. This position also reviews the Annual NCAA Graduation Rates Report and the Academic Performance Program.

This position uses the following publications/guidelines as sources of information needed to perform his/her work effectively: Articulation Handbook; Northern Illinois University catalogs; catalogs from other institutions; AACRAO Report of Credit Given; Policy Clarification/ Interpretation Memos for athletic eligibility and NIU’s definition of satisfactory progress toward a degree; procedures in the Athletics Procedures Manual; established procedures by supervisors; NCAA Manual; MAC Athletic Conference Constitution, Bylaws and Operating Code; the NCAA membership website; NCAA legislative database; the NCAA Newsletter; the NCAA Guide to Eligibility; the NCAA International Guide and Registration and Records Objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serves as the backup contact between Registration and Records and the offices of Huskie Athletic Compliance Office ( HACO ), Student Athlete Academic Support Services ( SAASS ) and the Faculty Athletic Representative ( FAR ).
  • Workload is directed by daily reports, communications/requests from Huskie Athletic Compliance Office, Student Athletic Academic Support Services, and special projects assigned by the Admissions/Records Coordinator (Athletic Eligibility Supervisor) or the (Associate) Director of Registration and Records, with minimum supervision.
  • Receive names of athletes from Huskie Athletic Compliance Office and prepares a deadline by which academic eligibility must be determined, review of student schedules determined by an operating calendar.
