Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Salary: $3,551 per month

Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,551 - $6,402 per month
  • This is a full-time (equivalent to 40 hours per week), probationary, non-exempt position.
The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 14 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Reporting to the Associate Dean, this position is in the Access Services unit of the Library and oversees safety and security procedures in the building and serves as the library’s safety coordinator and representative to relevant campus departments. The person in this position is also responsible for hiring, training, and supervising the student Public Safety Assistants (PSAs) who provide front-line safety and security duties for the library. The person in this position is also responsible for basic circulation activities, such as checking materials in and out, collecting fines and fees, issuing guest passes for computers, sorting and reshelving materials, and supervising student assistants in Circulation.

Key Qualifications
  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to interpret overall library policies and procedures with an in-depth knowledge of library operations, policies and procedures pertaining to security and circulation.
  • Thorough knowledge of library collections and their organization, as well as the Library of Congress classification system.
  • Expertise in the use of library automated systems for circulation.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of lead work direction in hiring, training, assigning work, organizing work, establishing priorities, and evaluating student assistants.
  • Working knowledge of university and library policies and procedures associated with the ethical use of and access to library and online resources.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and research skills to address standard and non-standard work problems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to:
    • Use good judgment in interpreting policies to resolve patron problems.
    • Perform detailed work with great accuracy and proficiency.
    • Fully utilize standard and non-standard features of various on-line resources and standard desktop software packages, such as Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel, to perform technical work or assist patrons.
  • A history of regular attendance and positive performance evaluations.

Education and Experience
  • Completion of a high school education or equivalent certification.
  • Two years of related library and/or clerical experience.
    • Preferred Skills:
      • Bachelor's Degree.
      • Experience in serving as the lead for a work function.
      • Working knowledge of Library of Congress classification system.
      • Training and/or experience coordinating building services and security.
