The Budget Office is the principal arm of the Vice Chancellor for
Budget and Finance in the areas of financial planning and fiscal
administration. In assistance to the Budget Director and the
Associate Budget Director, the employee in this position is
responsible for performing day-to-day tasks in execution of the
financial program.
The position enters, reconciles and reports on budget information to both internal and external constituents. The Budget Analyst performs advanced analyses to support the development and administration of departmental budgets across the entire university. Duties of this position fall within the overall operating, capital, and departmental budgets; with primary responsibility for maintenance of position and benefits data and encumbrance processing on the Banner Finance system. This role performs analysis, prepares, and submits operational and personnel data reports on a regular basis. The Budget Analyst advises and assists with developing budget estimates and establishing cost estimates to for existing, new, and expanded programs and positions. Additional responsibilities include maintaining budget reconciliations between state and university systems, maintaining interfaces, standard periodic update processing between budgeting and financial reporting systems, serving as a budgetary technical resource for university department and divisional inquires, assisting with special projects and reporting, and executing test plans for various budgetary system integrations and upgrades.
The Budget Analyst assists with special projects such as responses to state and federal reporting requests, provides oversight of training programs, and aids in drafting budgetary reports and dashboards. The position may also perform budget and actual financial variance analysis, apply standard fiscal and general managerial policies, prepare and input standard budget entries, and organize and maintain data and records in support of budget transactions. Under the direction of the Associate Budget Director, the Budget Analyst is expected to independently perform standard periodic budgetary processes and tasks and coordinate and communicate effectively with all university departments.
