Job Summary: This individual is employed by the University and reports to the SON Chair & Associate Dean for the SON. The Director of Undergraduate Nursing Clinical Education is responsible for off-site clinical supervision of the BSN, ABSN, and Pre-Licensure Direct Entry clinical experiences. The Director of Undergraduate Nursing Clinical Education has oversight of the undergraduate/pre-licensure clinical faculty. The Director of Undergraduate Nursing Clinical Education will have administrative, advising, and teaching responsibilities. Collaborating with the Chair & Associate Dean of the SON, the Director ensures academic rigor and curricular alignment of the pre-licensure clinical education programs. The Director will work to ensure that the needs of current and prospective students are aligned with the overall mission of the College and the standards of the Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

The Director of Undergraduate Nursing Clinical Education is responsible for overall BSN, Accelerated BSN (ABSN) & Pre-licensure Direct Entry clinical education design, development, and delivery, with the goal of creating the optimal student experience and desired student outcomes in collaboration with the SON Chair, Simulation Director and Associate Dean of Nursing.

Curriculum Management Responsibilities
  • Oversee undergraduate BSN, ABSN and Pre-Licensure Direct Entry competency clinical education in collaboration with Associate Dean, SON Chair, Direct Entry Program Director & Simulation Director.
  • Monitor and maintain academic policies within the SON and specific to the Undergraduate and pre-licensure clinical programs.
  • Ensures that the academic rigor and curriculum of the BSN, ABSN & Pre-Licensure Direct Entry clinical education programs are in alignment.
  • Assist with determining appropriate clinical experiences to meet the stated course objectives with the appropriate clinical faculty, in collaboration with the Clinical Placement Team and course faculty.
  • Review, evaluate, and recommend clinical education program changes in collaboration with Associate Dean, Direct Entry Program Director, Simulation Director, SON chair & course faculty.
  • Promote development of interdisciplinary clinical curricula and research.
  • Advocate and support faculty and students in clinical activities.
  • Coordinate and lead clinical faculty mentoring and clinical faculty development programs.
  • Oversee adherence to professional standards and best practices, in consultation with clinical faculty, SON Chair, Associate Dean, Direct Entry Program Director, & Simulation Director.
  • In consultation with the SON Chair and Associate Dean, assure that requirements for SON accreditation and MA BON are being met.
  • Participate in the SON accreditation and/or MA board approval activities.


Administrative Responsibilities
  • Ensure welfare of the BSN, ABSN & Pre-Licensure Direct Entry clinical program through managing and planning budget in coordination with the SON Chair, Associate Dean for SON, Operations Director, and Dean.
  • Supervises undergraduate and pre-licensure clinical faculty, undergraduate clinical operations manager, and the undergraduate clinical placement specialist.
  • Provides feedback on simulation (on-site clinical) faculty to the Simulation Director and SON Chair.
  • Monitor faculty workload to ensure compliance with University policies and college needs.
  • Completes the annual reviews for the clinical nursing faculty, undergraduate clinical operations manager, and the undergraduate clinical placement specialist.
  • Provide leadership in creating conditions conducive to the improvement of the overall infrastructure of the undergraduate clinical education programs through the maintenance of effective systems and processes within the College.
  • Facilitate clinical faculty meetings.
  • Maintain active, responsive, and positive communication with clinical nursing faculty, UG nursing staff, SON Chair, program directors, and other university members.
  • Assist the Dean, Associate Dean, and SON Chair with the maintenance of a culture of quality, trust, and accountability.
  • Work with the clinical nursing faculty, SON chair, Simulation Director, staff, advisors, Director of Operations, Dean, and Associate Dean to strengthen, coordinate, integrate, and implement strategic goals established by the SON and CNBHS.
  • Participate with the HR recruitment & clinical placement teams in the recruitment and hiring of qualified clinical faculty.


College Management Responsibilities, Including Student-Facing
  • Serve as a resource to liaise with the Simulation Center, Student Affairs, Accessibility Services, Office of Advising, Career Education Center, faculty, students, and clinical partners.
  • Assist faculty leaders and clinical partners with complex student issues.
  • Participate with the Operations team, SON Chair, and faculty in providing leadership for applicable programming, special events, ceremonies, and graduation celebrations.
  • Participate in the College-wide strategic planning as well as that of the BSN, ABSN & Pre-Licensure Direct Entry Clinical program.
  • Participate in the development of strong campus and community partnerships.
  • Provide visionary leadership for the clinical programs and other educational initiatives and partnerships.
  • Participate (with Dean, Associate Dean, SON Chair, and faculty leaders) in recruitment and admissions of students.


Faculty Management Role
  • Oversee the clinical faculty hiring processes (in collaboration with Operations Director, Dean, Associate Dean, SON Chair, HR, and the Provost's Office).
  • Complete all BSN, ABSN, Pre-Licensure Direct Entry clinical faculty annual reviews.
  • Work with the academic leadership team in relation to sensitive faculty dismissal processes when necessary.
  • Advocate for equitable allocation of capital resources required to support faculty scholarship and student learning objectives consistent with professional standards and best practices (laboratory facilities, simulation center, etc).
  • Provide leadership and promote professional development within the clinical faculty.


Teaching Responsibilities
  • This position carries clinical course teaching responsibilities. The director will have teaching responsibilities spread throughout the 12 month period as determined by the Associate Dean and SON Chair based on the program needs.


External Role
  • Serve as a communication link in conjunction with the SON Chair & Associate Dean between the SON, College, University, 2U (as applicable), Clinical Partners, and other external constituents including but not limited to employers, alumni, donors, and professional associations.


Other Duties
  • Other responsibilities as determined by the SON Chair, Associate Dean, or Dean.


Qualifications/Skills:
  • Master's degree in Nursing
  • Terminal (PhD, DNP, DNSc) degree preferred
  • 3 - 5 years of experience as faculty
  • 3 - 5 years of clinical experience as a RN
  • Ability to build and manage budgets or willingness to learn
  • Creative problem solver
  • Strong and effective communicator
  • Ability to motivate and build consensus among faculty
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with the SON Chair, Associate Dean for the SON, Simulation Director, Direct Entry Director, and Operations to strengthen, coordinate, integrate, and implement the goals established by the program and CNBHS.


Terms of Service:

The Director of Undergraduate Nursing Clinical Education is a 12-Month Faculty Role with administrative responsibilities. This is a Boston-based campus position.
