Job Description
The Department of Psychology and Sociology at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track faculty position of Sociology at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning fall 2023. Rank will be determined upon qualifications. We seek applicants with a Ph.D. in Sociology who have strong potential for success as a teaching scholar, as evidenced by a record of (or potential for) teaching excellence and research productivity. Advanced ABD will be considered. Successful candidates must be committed to working with diverse colleagues, students, and community members.
Areas of research and teaching specialization are open. We are especially interested in candidates whose teaching and research interests could expand our current course offerings and expertise. Possible areas in which we would welcome specialization include social theory, race and ethnicity, social class inequalities, education, deviance, family, environmental sociology, and culture, among other possibilities.
The Department of Psychology and Sociology at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi offers an undergraduate degree in Sociology. Tenure-track faculty in sociology teach a range of lower- and upper-division courses in sociology at the undergraduate level. The typical teaching load is 3-3 each academic year. We seek applicants who will contribute to our program's mission and contribute innovative ideas for expanding the direction of our program.
The department has a commitment to diversity as a key means of enhancing teaching and learning. In addition, the department has an increasing focus on research and seeks candidates interested in involving students in research. We encourage candidates from underrepresented backgrounds to apply.
Required Qualifications:
- PhD in Sociology. Advanced ABD will be considered; degree must
be conferred at the time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to teach both lower- and upper-level courses at the
undergraduate level
- Experience and/or ability to teach and work with
underrepresented and/or first-generation undergraduate
students
- Promising research agenda with potential to publish
