The Executive Director of Career Engagement & Pathway Development provides a vision, strategy and plan for increasing the visibility of the Institute and expanding experiential learning and professional development opportunities for undergraduate students. The Executive Director serves as a campus and corporate Liaison to develop and maintain relationships with colleges, employers, organizations and agencies offering internships, externships, fellowships, job shadowing, mentoring, research, volunteer, and other experiential learning opportunities.

The Executive Director is responsible for developing and leading a CCPCP advisory board consisting of community, agency, and college representatives to develop, centralize and maintain a database of opportunities, and outcomes for students in internships, externships, fellowships, etc. The leader identifies badging/certificate programs and comprehensive plans for integrating experiential learning activities within the curriculum and courses. Reporting to the AVP of Corporate-Community Partnerships & Career Pathways, the Executive Director of Career Pathways Engagement & Development, will provide visionary, innovative, and strategic leadership of CCPCP to create a proactive and forward-thinking resource for students, alumni, faculty, and staff that prepares TSU’s students for purpose driven lives and meaningful careers.

Essential Duties Summary
  • Cultivate and strengthen new and existing partnerships with employers, community organizations, and agencies to develop and expand experiential learning and post-graduation employment opportunities.
  • Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President of Corporate-Community Partnerships & Career Pathways, the Executive Director will develop a strategic plan to achieve strong outcomes in the following areas: experiential learning, employer engagement, hiring and recruiting, faculty and student engagement, and data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with the University Deans or designees to introduce career-based learning activities within the curriculum, such as: credited internships, case study courses and capstone courses, latest technology introductions such as Power BI, coding, job simulations, field experiences, service learning, job shadowing, and volunteering experiences.
  • Collaborate with the faculty to develop a digital badging/certificate program for STEM work-study, internship, and research experiences.
  • Participate and lead an Advisory Board consisting of industry professionals, community partners, agency and college representatives. Plan quarterly meetings and provide oversight and support for advisory workstreams as needed.
  • Actively engage employers and organizations to develop workshops, employer information sessions, case competitions, career fairs, networking sessions, and other career-related events.
  • Conduct research on forecast hiring trends of employers to identify requisite career-readiness and industry specific skills for all majors.
  • Coordinate and facilitate workshops and class presentations and analyze real-world data for all majors on opportunities offered through the University.
  • Serve on related University committees and professional associations.
  • Participate in training and professional development activities as required.
  • Work on special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Promote visibility of the Corporate-Community Partnerships & Career Pathways to increase student awareness and usage of resources. The Executive Director will identify new approaches and leverage technology to effectively communicate the services and resources of the CCPCP .
  • Gather and report annual data. The Executive Director will be responsible for accurately collecting career pathway connections from enrollment to graduation and supporting the implementation for post-graduation data in accordance with National Association of Colleges and Employers ( NACE ) standards and protocols to provide insight on the initial pathways of TSU students. Utilizing their knowledge of assessment methods and database management, the Executive Director will gather data to inform CCPCP marketing and programming initiatives and effectively communicate to ensure that key campus stakeholders are informed regarding CCPCP information and metrics.
  • Broaden internship and employment opportunities for students and graduates. The Executive Director will have an awareness of the employment landscape for domestic and international students and an understanding of the broad career interests of all TSU students. The Executive Director will strategically build synergistic partnerships with faculty, parents, alumni, employers, and other stakeholders to expand employment, internship, and exploration opportunities for students and graduates.
  • Engage and collaborate with STEM faculty and academic departments to ensure their involvement and expertise are fully utilized and leveraged. The Executive Director will build strong relationships with faculty to collaboratively identify opportunities for integration of career exploration in the classroom or through departmental programs and initiatives. Along with CCPCP staff, the Executive Director will work closely with faculty to ensure students reflect on classroom learning in the career exploration process.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead meetings, trainings, and provide professional development opportunities for students within majors. Innovate, reaching beyond traditional responsibilities and ways of operating
  • Provide creative and strategic vision and leadership for a broad and dynamic range of curricular and co-curricular developmental career and life planning programs and services for the university’s undergraduate, graduate student, and alumni populations. Including but not limited to: career advising, high impact and experiential learning and opportunities, job-embedded professional development, individual career counseling, internships, student employment, partnerships on academic course offerings, and development of career planning student learning outcomes and assessments.
  • Cultivate strategic partnerships across campus including, faculty, staff, students, academic departments, student affairs departments, alumni engagement and development offices, alumni, parents, and community partners and employers to facilitate and support a robust career planning program for all students.
  • Evaluate current CCPCP programs and practices to identify areas for growth or improvement; collect and analyze performance metrics and measurable outcomes; assess effectiveness of current technologies, databases, and social media, and make recommendations as needed on tools to ensure Center objectives are achieved.
  • Provide institutional leadership and communication around the value and impact of experiential learning and career preparation endeavors in students’ college and professional career journeys in collaboration with campus entities including (student retention and matriculation success, and Freshman and Sophomore experience).

Education
