Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Librarian I/II, Urban Health Research Diversity Resident Librarian #1 at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):

The Vera P. Shiffman Medical Library at Wayne State University is pleased to announce the creation of a new three-year Library Residency position called Diversity Resident Program Librarian I/II. The Diversity Resident Librarian I/II will give the library professional the opportunity to gain expertise in biomedical library services in a vibrant, urban health research environment while pursuing certification from the Medical Library Association (MLA) in research data management or consumer health information management, or in-depth knowledge and skills in scholarly communications and publishing. The overarching goal of the residency experience is to foster the professional growth and development of underrepresented groups in academic research librarianship in a supportive, team environment. The position will be fully embedded in the Shiffman Medical Library organizational structure, working with a team of librarians and staff and reporting to the Library Director.

This dynamic, service-oriented, and team-oriented Diversity Resident Program Librarian I/II (UHRL) will:

Support the academic and clinical communities of Wayne State University School of Medicine and Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.

Deliver in-depth biomedical information research support, user consultations and instruction, information management responsibilities. and some special projects.

Responsible for assessing user needs, ultimately leading activities, training, and projects to increase the discovery and application of library resources for urban health research.

Qualifications:

Master's Degree from an ALA-accredited program in information and library science earned by December 2019.

At least 2.5 years of professional experience working in an academic, public, special, or research library setting, with a strong desire to work in the field of medical librarianship.

Direct experience working with diverse user groups and building professional networks.

A growth mindset, driven by effectively embracing challenges and welcoming opportunities.

General knowledge of the Medical Library Association Competencies for Lifelong Learning and Professional Success.

Some experience or increasing knowledge of providing reference services, conducting literature searches, delivering online library instruction via Zoom, Teams, and Skype, and creating LibGuides.
