Job Description

The Department of Communication and Rhetorical Studies, College of Visual and Performing Arts, at Syracuse University invites applications for a three-year, non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor, to begin August 2023.

This person will serve as a Basic Course Director and teach courses in the undergraduate curriculum. We seek candidates who recognize the importance of a vital public culture and are firmly grounded in the discipline of rhetoric. Applicants should complement the department’s current strengths in rhetoric, language and social interaction, performance studies, and media studies . PhD in communication or a related field must be completed by August 2023, with superior training and exceptional promise for a career in higher education. The search committee is particularly interested in candidates who will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching and service. Qualifications
  • PhD in Communication or comparable field.
  • Record of excellence in teaching.
  • The department is particularly interested in candidates who have the communication abilities and cross-cultural competencies to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and community members.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking in a variety of online and traditional contexts.
  • Evidence of a commitment to working collegially with individuals from diverse backgrounds is required.
Job Specific Qualifications

Responsibilities
  • Current teaching load is 3/3 in courses commensurate with the curriculum in Communication and Rhetorical Studies.
  • Serve on committees in the Department, College, and University.
