POSITION: COORDINATOR OF FYE/SYE & PARENT/FAMILY RELATIONS

DEPARTMENT: STUDENT AFFAIRS

DIVISION: STUDENT AFFAIRS AND ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Coordinator of First-Year and Second-Year and Parent/Family Relations is responsible for creating robust and supportive services, resources and programs for students progressing through their freshman and sophomore years at Johnson C. Smith University. This individual is responsible for designing and implementing summer, fall and spring New Student Orientation programs (i.e., Golden Bull Academy) for newly enrolled, Term 1 and Term 2 students. Likewise, they are also tasked with creating and implementing ongoing educational, cultural and social activities and events, as well as collaborating with other campus areas (i.e., Admissions and Recruitment, Financial Aid, Housing and Residence Life, Academic Advisors/Success Coaches), to ensure smooth transitions for first- and second-year students. Finally, this individual will have the opportunity to commence a new initiative at Johnson C. Smith University, Parent and Family Relations, which will connect students’ familial and community support systems with institutional areas at Johnson C. Smith University.

Qualifications: A Master’s degree and demonstrated experience working with second-year students, retention efforts, and/or academic achievement/support services. Knowledge of and proficiency with integrated student information systems such as Jenzabar, Banner or Beacon. Knowledge of laws, regulations, and mandates relevant to the student and academic information (e.g., FERPA, NCAA, VA). Records management, including security and preservation of records. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required. Some evening and weekend work is occasionally required.
