We especially encourage applicants from groups historically excluded from mathematics and statistics.

Accessibility during the application and interview stages, as well as once employed, is a priority of the College: https://www.bowdoin.edu/accessibility/index.html.

Bowdoin College accepts only electronic submissions through MathJobs.org. A complete application includes a cover letter; research, teaching, and diversity statements; and three letters of reference. At least one letter of reference must address the applicant’s teaching. In the cover letter, please briefly address your short- or long-term career goals related to research, teaching, and diversity, equity, and inclusion, and your experience teaching as a primary instructor or instructor of record.  Within your teaching or diversity statements, please address your view of inclusive teaching in mathematics, and how you strive to realize it.  Review of applications will begin on February 8, 2023 and continue until the position is filled.

The mathematics department at Bowdoin College is a welcoming community of dedicated scholars and students brought together by our shared joy in the exploration of mathematics. Our research and teaching range across the discipline, from number theory to statistics, with outside connections to biology, computer science, political science, economics, and physics. We prioritize mentorship for all faculty and are excited to welcome new members who share our commitment to research, teaching, and building a community that actively broadens who counts themselves as mathematicians.

Our talented students form the core of our community. With roughly fifty majors each year, ours is among the largest majors on campus, while still retaining an intimate and engaging culture that attempts to cultivate the spark of learning in each of its members. In addition to engaging classroom dynamics, we benefit from student-faculty lunches and a variety of seminar series focusing on faculty research, teaching practice, and topics of interest to students.
