POSITION: DIRECTOR OF INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH

DEPARTMENT: INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS

DIVISION: ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness, the Director of Institutional Research is responsible for developing, leading, and managing a comprehensive institutional research program in support of the University’s short-term and long-term strategic goals. Under minimal supervision, the Director has broad responsibility for the analysis and reporting of data for strategic planning, academic and administrative decision-making, and assessment. S/he works across departments to build and maintain strong research enterprises and deepen a culture of academic assessment and evidence-based decision-making at the University. The Director also serves on accreditation-related committees involved in assessment and planning, monitoring departmental reports, and completing assessment reports for academic programs and support units. The Director performs related administrative and supervisory work as required.

Qualifications: A master’s degree is required, or higher, in higher education, statistics, marketing research and analysis, or research-oriented field, with a minimum of five years of increasingly responsible experience in institutional research and assessment in a higher education setting. The equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered. Other skills and experience needed include:

  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and research design skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in research and statistical methods, survey design and report writing.
  • Knowledge of higher education accreditation requirements, research methods, and continuous assessment and improvement practices.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and communicate findings clearly and accurately, in written, oral and graphic formats, so that it is understandable by a variety of audiences, including senior management, faculty, staff and external individuals or groups.
  • Expertise in working with electronic databases and software packages.
  • Expertise in designing, conducting and analyzing surveys.
  • Ability to work well with people at all levels in teams and communities, as well as a strong ability to work independently.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Flexible and nimble, able to accommodate changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
