POSITION: UNIVERSITY INTERNSHIP & EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING MANAGER

DEPARTMENT: THE SMITH INSTITUTE FOR RESEARCH, CAREER DEVELOPMENT, AND POST-GRADUATE READINESS

Responsibilities: The University Internship & Experiential Learning Manager of The Smith Institute for Research, Career Development, and Postgraduate Readiness (SIRCDPgR) is a vital role in the implementation of ongoing strategic and student success-related initiatives. Under the leadership of the Assistant Director of The Smith Institute for Research (SIRCDPgR), the University Internship & Experiential Learning Manager is responsible for managing all career development activities and programs that will support all students. The Manager presents outreach programming and workshops to students in classroom settings, residence halls, and student organizations. As a main student-facing resource, the manager will be a visible, accessible, and energetic member of the SIRCDPgR Career Services team. With a strong focus on connecting students with internships, post-graduate, and other experiential learning opportunities as outlined in The Golden(en) Blueprint strategic plan and outcomes. The Manager will report to and assist the Assistant Director of The Smith Institute for Research, Career Development, and Postgraduate Readiness (SIRCDPgR) as a liaison between career services, academic advising, new student programs, and faculty advisors

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Student Personnel Services, Business or a related area; a master’s degree in a related field and experience that equates to an advanced degree may be considered. Knowledge of student services, apprenticeships, internships, and other experiential learning activities. Familiarity with and understanding of the liberal arts curriculum. Strong interpersonal and presentation skills. Keen attention to detail and follow-through. Ability to present to large audiences in a professional and articulate manner.

Core Competencies/Skills:

  • Ability to work effectively with students from diverse social and economic backgrounds
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to effectively navigate job search web tools and social media platforms such as Handshake, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
  • Extensive knowledge of student development and career development
  • Experience building partnerships with businesses, agencies, and non-profits
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills especially those in the areas of collaboration, conflict resolution, problem-solving and decision making
  • Strong organization and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and constituents
  • An inclusive student success-centered philosophy of providing services and resources
