POSITION SUMMARY


The Data Analyst supports the University's administrative data systems and related software systems. In addition to developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting reports and performing broad data analysis, the person in this position provides cross-functional user support and training, as well as code development in support of analytics efforts. The Data Analyst has the opportunity to work with a wide array of technologies and will develop a deep domain expertise in administrative functions within a higher education setting.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
  • Create and conduct queries and compile datasets in the context of report generation, data analysis, and software development.
  • Engage in close interaction with University staff to determine project and software requirements.
  • Identify data issues and work with others in I.S. and other offices to triage, track, communicate, mitigate, and remediate the issues to closure
  • Assist in developing processes and procedures to support data standards and frameworks around data classification, security, handling, analysis, and reporting.
  • Assist with evaluation, analysis, and maintenance of data tools and administrative software systems.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and resolution of data and software problems.
  • Provide user and technical support for administrative applications, including training in the use of related information systems, reports, and data tools.
  • Work with University offices to analyze and improve departmental system practices and procedures.
  • Engage in active participation with the Information Services team, including staff meetings, development activities, and project work.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Education: Associate's degree in computer science or related field required; substantial career experience can be substituted for a degree.

Experience: Minimum of three (3) years' current, related experience required.

Computer Skills
  • Ability to define and analyze business requirements and functional systems design.
  • Experience working relational databases, working knowledge of SQL, as well as the ability to modify and troubleshoot SQL statements.
  • Proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office product suite.
  • Ability to develop specialized reports and perform detailed data analysis in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, or other data analysis and visualization packages preferred.
  • Experience in or the ability to learn server-side scripting (Windows and Linux).
  • Ability to define and analyze business requirements.
  • Experience developing software applications using modern programming languages a plus.
Communication/Language: Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Other Requirements
  • Prior work experience in a higher education setting preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team setting.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
