Duties and Responsibilities
Loyola University Chicago ( LUC ), College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, invites applications for a Lecturer of Italian (non-tenure-track, renewable), beginning academic year 2023-2024. The successful candidate will be joining a department with more than 20 full-time faculty members, over 12 majors and minors, and a graduate program in Hispanic Studies. Located on Chicago’s vibrantly multicultural North Side, LUC is committed to creating an inclusive, responsive community of faculty, students, and staff. This search is part of a university-wide, multiyear hiring initiative designed to hire outstanding researchers and teachers who are reflective of our diverse student body. Teaching responsibilities will include a 4-4 teaching load. Courses will range from beginning- to advanced-level Italian and the Composition & Conversation sequence, as well as courses in cinema and literature in translation. The position also includes coordination of Italian language courses.
Qualifications
The candidate should have a PhD in Italian or a related field at the time of appointment. Candidates for the position must clearly demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching and have a record of (or clear potential for) student mentorship. The candidate should have experience in Italian language pedagogy and teaching both in person and online, and ideally will be qualified to teach courses in Italian literature and cinema. A specialization in the Medieval and Renaissance periods would be especially welcome. The candidate should be willing and able to support the extracurricular activities of the Italian program, the mission of LUC, and the goals of a Jesuit Catholic Education.
