Description

Houghton University invites applications for a full-time tenure track appointment in Education at the assistant or associate rank, starting in the fall of 2023.  Specific teaching assignments will depend on how the candidate’s expertise, interests, and experiences intersect with program needs. We are especially interested in applicants whose content expertise and experience include literacy or special education.

The successful candidate would teach undergraduate courses in education, including foundational courses (e.g. Educating Exceptional Learners, Education & American Culture) and upper-level methods courses (.g.  Issues in Inclusive Education and/or Language & Literacy for Diverse Learners), with the possibility of teaching in our On-line Graduate Literacy program. Responsibilities will include teaching 3-4 courses per semester, advising, mentoring of student teachers, departmental collaboration, service, scholarship, enhancing online offerings, and building educational partnerships.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications

Candidates must have teaching experience and scholarship in education.  A terminal degree in the field of Education is required at the time of hiring for the tenure track (ABD will be considered, with a tenure track appointment commencing after the completion of the terminal degree).  In addition, candidates must demonstrate interest and willingness to support the University’s online offerings and mentor undergraduate students.  Other vital qualities include a mature Christian faith, strong communication and interpersonal skills, a commitment to excellence and creativity in undergraduate teaching, and an ability to integrate Christian faith into their teaching.  Also required is an ability to help students form respectful attitudes and interactions with people who differ in abilities, attitudes, and cultural experiences.

Preferred qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who hold current teaching credentials with experience teaching online.  Additionally, we will prioritize applicants who have experience teaching in inclusive classrooms and are also qualified to teach literacy, special education, or social studies methods courses.

We encourage applications from members of historically underrepresented groups.  All qualified applicants will receive equal consideration regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, age, or veteran status.

Deadline:

For priority consideration, please submit all application materials by February 28, 2023.

Application review will begin immediately, and the position will remain open until filled.
