Summary
Reporting directly to the Vice President of Finance/ CFO, the The Associate Vice President ( AVP ) for Finance provides leadership and management for all financial functions including the Offices of Controller, Accounts Payable, Budget, Purchasing and Auxiliary Services. The position provides support to the Vice President of Finance/ CFO, the President and the President’s Cabinet as well as the Board of Trustees on various financial matters, including operating performance, treasury operations, and levels of receivables and debt. Frequent interaction with other departments, internal and external auditors, outsourced Chief Investment Officer ( CIO ), bankers, debt advisors, vendors, etc. occur on an ongoing basis related to the University’s financial functions.
The AVP of Finance has supervisory responsibility for the Controller, University Budget Manager, and the Director of Purchasing & Auxiliary Services. The AVP will provide effective leadership and continuity in the acquisition, supervision, development and retention of well-qualified, motivated, and productive assigned staff and their respective operations. Oversee the accuracy and the timeliness of all financial reporting, including management of the University’s accounting and related systems, external audit supervision, financial statement preparation, tax reporting, and operating and capital budgeting oversight, including financial modeling, forecasting, trend analysis, and variance monitoring.

- A baccalaureate degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- At least seven years of progressive experience supervising and directing professional staff in a finance setting.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles ( GAAP ), non-profit tax rules and codes, and Federal grant compliance.
- Proficiency in the use of spreadsheets, query tools and financial databases.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and effectively with multiple constituents within the University.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects within or in advance of stated deadlines.
- Attention to detail, accuracy, and a high degree of motivation is crucial for this role.
- Work experience in a higher education setting.
- CPA license and/or Master’s degree in accounting, finance or related field.
- Banner and/or Workday Finance software system.
- A motivated problem-solver who will take initiative to identify opportunities and implement business process improvement efforts; this would include the experience or ability to automate processes and create efficiencies.
