The Department of Teacher Education at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) invites applications for a Tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor (Academic Year) with the appointment starting in Fall 2023.

The Position

The faculty of the College of Education at California State University Dominguez Hills invites applications from individuals for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor position in the Teacher Education Division of the College of Education.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated history of successful teaching and research in the areas of Science Education with a critical pedagogy, intersectional, and justice perspective. The candidate will have experience as a successful TK-12 school teacher in urban school environments with linguistically, culturally, racially, and economically diverse students, as well as an understanding of the Next Generation Science Standards and California Common Core State Standards as they relate to science education.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching a variety of post-baccalaureate /graduate courses in the Teacher Education Division in the College of Education (face-to-face, hybrid and online) in science education, including providing fieldwork supervision for science candidates
  • Pursuing a research agenda related to science education
  • Supporting curriculum development and programmatic efforts of the Masters of Education program and any or all of our current MA in Education options: a) Curriculum & Instruction; b) Dual Language Learning
  • Assuming college and university committee responsibilities
  • Participating in and expanding partnerships with area schools to foster excellent field experiences and job prospects for our candidates
  • Demonstrating and employing digital tools (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas) that enhance learning in all courses.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Applicants must have experience in teaching and working with colleagues from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
  • An earned doctorate in science education or a closely related field
  • Experience or potential to develop and maintain a research agenda in science education teaching or learning from an equity and justice oriented perspective
  • Ability and willingness to teach courses in science education at the post-baccalaureate and graduate levels from an equity and justice oriented perspective
  • Demonstrated experience teaching science at the elementary and/or secondary level in urban school environments with linguistically, culturally, racially, and economically diverse students

  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Multiple subject or single subject TK-12 teaching credential
    • Experience preparing science teachers in dual language/bilingual settings
    • Evidence of working with pre-service or in-service teachers and supporting their efforts to teach for equity and social justice
    • Experience working in partnership with local schools, education agencies, school districts, or higher education institutions
    • Theoretical and methodological background that complements and/or extends the knowledge base of the Teacher Education Division (including: critical pedagogy, critical race studies, ethnic studies, trauma/healing informed pedagogies, etc.)
    • Active participation in national or international professional organizations in education

    Background Check

    Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information.     Additional Information

    The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is $5,405 to $11,994 per month (12 monthly payments per academic year); salary for this position will be commensurate with experience and current CSUDH faculty salaries in the academic department/discipline. Faculty salaries are subject to budgetary authorization and any California State University System faculty contract increases. Summer research grants, moving expenses, start‐up funds, and a reduced teaching load may be available. An excellent comprehensive benefits package is available that includes: health/vision/dental plans; spouse, domestic partner and dependent fee‐waiver; access to campus child‐care; and a defined‐benefit retirement through the state system along with optional tax sheltering opportunities.
