Job Description:

The College of Medicine, Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology is seeking a Biological Scientist II. The Biological Scientist II will be responsible for independently directing and implementing the design, construction and testing of new laboratory protocols, designing and performing molecular and cell biology experiments, general laboratory maintenance including ordering, routine record keeping, supervising compliance with hazardous waste and biological safety requirements. This role is also responsible for maintaining stock solutions, including cell culture media and common buffers. The individual will also supervise and train rotation students, undergraduate students and graduate assistants.

Supervising/training lab personnel. Supervising rotation students and undergrads that are directly working on projects as well as providing technical help to scientists working in the lab. Train and supervise graduate assistants as required.

Assist the P.I. in laboratory related maintenance and technical issues. This includes compliance with hazardous waste and biological safety requirements, organization of the lab, ordering, inventory, maintenance of lab stock solutions and supplies for the effective running of the lab.

Performing experience and collecting biological samples.

Responsible for and required to protect laboratory (and UF) intellectual property. This includes maintaining confidential data accurately and safely in accordance with laboratory notebook SOPs and UF IP policy.

Expected Salary:

$45,600 - $59,262 annually and is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Doctoral degree in biology or a closely related field; or a master's degree in biology or a closely related field and one year of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in biology or a closely related field and three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Good record keeping and attention to detail. Experience working with BSL2 pathogens. Experience in RNA extractions, DNA purifications, and standard Molecular Biology techniques. Experience with lab database and ordering software.
