However, offer amount will be commensurate with candidate's

POSITION PURPOSE:
The Department of Music & Theatre is actively recruiting for a Performing Arts Technician II. The Performing Arts Technician, under the general supervision of the Department Chair, is responsible for assisting with technical operations for department productions and performances, and events in the Doré Theatre.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE – Two (2) years of recent (within 5 years) experience working for a theater, repertory or stock company engaged in the applicable production specialty such as costume construction, stage and set construction, lighting production, and/or sound/audio production.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, CREDENTIALS- Possession of a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES (SKA's) –
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: HEAVY WORK – 50% or more of the activities involve walking, standing, squatting, kneeling or climbing; lifting heavy weight objects which may exceed 50 pounds.

- Serve as master carpenter for Theatre Program productions
- Translate design drawings
- Draft working drawings
- Procure materials and supplies for production use
- Manage support projects and productions
- Prepare stage and hang, focus, and cue lights for events as required
- Perform routine maintenance on shop equipment
- Return items to storage after use
- Keep shop and performance spaces safe, organized and clean
- Explain tasks, train, and assist students in completing technical theatre projects
- Assist in the training and supervision of student involved in productions
- Participate in shop meetings with faculty and staff, and answer communications regarding projects
- Participate in skills and safety trainings
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Possess knowledge of the technical aspects of scenic construction, implementation and operation of staging materials including the ability to work with drawings and plots to assist in their execution.
- Woodworking (rough and finish carpentry skills), common backstage practices and etiquette, operation of theatrical equipment, and drafting.
- Thorough and comprehensive knowledge of scenery construction and stage operation (rigging, fly systems, mixing and applying paint, drafting skills [AutoCAD preferred] and woodworking tools); basic knowledge of theatrical lighting equipment and sound production.
- Thorough knowledge of safety requirements and standards related production support specialty and stage operations and ability to train others in safety measures and ensure compliance with codes and regulations.
- Ability to independently manage production support projects and productions by breaking segments into working units that coincide with production needs.
- Ability to work on more complex projects/designs and to work with more difficult materials and equipment, including the ability to select and use the most appropriate materials to meet production needs.
- Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in the University with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems.
- Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to interpret, communicate and apply policies and procedures.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines.
- Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
- Must be able to work overtime, occasional holidays, and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.
- Regular and reliable attendance is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with robotic lighting.
- Welding capability and/or certificate.
- Fork lift certificate.
- Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment utilizing a service-centered attitude.
