Job Description Summary / TWC Summary

Under general supervision of VP Student Experience assesses, organizes, and implements small- and large-scale programming to support the growth and development of all students and campus organizations at TSU . Contributes to the holistic development of students by coordinating educational, social, awareness, and cultural programs, scheduling events, advising students/student groups as needed, and marketing the to the campus community. Engages with faculty advisors and serves as needed. Conceptualizes and executes programs that will enhance the student experience, promotes student learning, fosters the holistic development of students, and aid in retention efforts. Serves on University committees and assisting with Initiatives to support the mission of Texas Southern University.

Essential Duties Summary
  • Plans, organizes, coordinates and supervises various educational, recreational, social and cultural student events including but not limited to New Student Orientation, Freshmen Week, Welcome Week, various aspects of Homecoming, Awareness Initiatives, Spring Fest, and civic engagement programs. Plan, coordinate, and assess night and weekend co-curricular programming.
  • Provides direct oversight of all student organizations, student organization/advisor handbook, community standards associated with student organizations and manages the relationship and training of student organization advisors. Takes an active role in advising the student organization.
  • Knowledgeable about the general purpose of the organizations and familiar with all provisions outlined in the organization’s constitution and bylaws.
  • Knows the officers of the organization and the current members of the organization, Meets with the organization’s presidents on a regular basis {at least monthly). Remains informed of all activities sponsored and conducted by the student organization and attend events as feasible.
  • Maintains all community service requirements for student organizations.
  • Knowledgeable about and adhering to University’s policies and procedures which pertain to student organizations.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures listed In the Student Code of Conduct and review this code with the student organization presidents. Offers guidance to the organization on goal setting, organization management, program planning, problem-solving and group evaluation. Knows the organization’s process for obtaining new members.
  • Facilitates the campus organization workshops and processes all paperwork to ensure all student organizations are in good standing.
  • Maintains regular communication and leads assessment Initiatives associated with the student organization area and monitors and maintains budgetary controls and accountability for various programs.
  • Works with campus organizations and NPHC, advises all fraternity and sorority organizations/councils Including recruitment processes, budgeting, event planning, risk management and Judiciary processes, Works with student members, campus, local and national advisors, and international organizations to push chapters to meet and/or exceed the standards of behavior and excellence expected by the Institution, local chapters, and national Greek letter organizations. Advises chapter presidents; engages in organizational development plans with chapter officers with an emphasis on continuous quality improvement.
  • Co-advises, coordinates, and assists with the development of the student newspaper and yearbook while establishing the continuity of the publications board. Work closely with the Editor­
  • In-Chiefs (EIC’s) to develop quality material for student newspaper and yearbook. Work collaboratively with the EIC, School of Communications, Faculty, and student groups to coordinate the development of the student newspaper and yearbook.
  • Assists In the oversight of the programming budgets (as needed) and oversees program-related expenditures and revenue.
  • Plans marketing and promotions of programming Initiatives, Including the use of various social media outlets. Develop departmental communications Including brochures, flyers, and annual reports. Participate In the development of marketing strategies to promote campus activities and services to maximize student involvement.
  • Must be adept in multiple areas, Including risk management, student programming, and student development theory.
  • Develops and Implements student learning outcomes driven by assessment.
  • Represents the Office of Student Life to Internal and external constituents regularly and must carry out those duties appropriately and professionally.
  • Communicates, and builds relationships and works effectively with students, staff, faculty, alumni, national and international organizations, parents, and members of the community. Demonstrate ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Supports divisionally sponsored student organizations such as SGA, Royal Court, University Program Council, and/or TSU Cheerleaders, as well as their advisors.
  • Completes and submits all required reports directly to supervisor on a bi-weekly or monthly basis.
  • Obtains professional development within the Journalism realm by presenting or attending at local, regional, and national conferences.
  • Performs other Job-related duties as assigned.

Hiring Range
$63,840.00 - $79,801.00

Education

Master’s degree AND three (3) to five (5) years of progressive growth in the field.
Terminal degree preferred.

Required Licensing/Certification

Valid Texas Driver’s License preferred.
