Creative Arts College: Academic Advisor to provide individual academic advising and support to undergraduate students in the College of Creative Arts (CCA), primarily the Department of Art. This includes assisting with academic planning, connecting advisees with appropriate university resources, and communicating relevant information verbally and electronically. The duties and responsibilities of the position allow to work remotely up to 40% of the time, when the job permits. Full-time work in Oxford, OH will be necessary at least 3 days a week. Remote work is a working arrangement that can be modified or revoked by Miami University at any time for any reason.

Duties include and are not limited to: Participating in the planning, implementation, and assessment of programs for first-year, transfer, and prospective students, both domestic and international. Advising primarily in the Department of Art - with a focus on areas of study such as art & architecture history, communication design, art education, studio art, fashion, and art minors - and also supporting other programs in the division. Initiating academic intervention and outreach efforts and participating in CCA strategic planning and Office of Admission recruitment events. Serving as lead for First Generation student support. May teach a first-year experience or transition course, act as a resource for faculty and other professional advisors across the university, and serve on committees/working groups. Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean.

Required: Master’s degree, which must be completed by date of appointment. Minimum six (6) months of advising or student affairs experience in academic, career, study abroad and/or related areas. Experience gained during a related graduate program can apply (graduate experience is prorated: one (1) semester of an assistantship is equivalent to 2.25 months of full-time experience).

Consideration may be given to candidates with: Education in art or art-adjacent field, higher education, student affairs, college student personnel, or psychological counseling and experience in a university or college setting. Understanding of student development theory; experience working with diverse student populations, including First Generation students; excellent written and oral communication (including public speaking), organization, technological, and collaborative skills; and experience with tools such as Banner, uAchieve (degree audits), Student Success Collaborative (Navigate), Oracle Business Intelligence, and Transferology.com.
