About the Opportunity

The Global Experience Office (GEO) is a central office of global education at Northeastern University, committed to ensuring that every Northeastern student has an opportunity to engage in intellectually challenging and culturally enriching experiences throughout the world. To achieve this, GEO partners with Northeastern colleges and units to integrate meaningful global experiences into their curricula and to enhance their capacity through global mobility. Northeastern's signature programs, including Dialogues of Civilizations, Global Quest, The N.U.in Program, and Semester-In, are carefully designed to reflect the Northeastern University (NU) global mission, complement students' on-campus studies, deepen students' knowledge of the world and their chosen field of study, and help students develop intercultural and political sensitivity, utilize and strengthen foreign language skills, explore global career options, and grow as individuals. Through these programs, GEO facilitates global experiences for over 3,800 NU students and 200 additional foreign incoming students.

With supervision from the Director of Academic Integration & Planning, the Associate Director of Academic Integration and Global Learning (AD) works to integrate meaningful global experiences into Northeastern's curricula and to enhance academic capacity through global mobility. To do this, the AD builds and maintains an extensive familiarity with the Northeastern University curricula and GEO's partners' curricula through research and communications with departments and colleges.The AD examines and catalogs GEO partner unique strengths and available subject areas to inform Northeastern departments and administrators. In conjunction with the colleges, the AD identifies gaps in Northeastern curricula and areas for enhancement and recommend solutions for building intentional study abroad programming into the curriculum. Relatedly, the AD works on enhancing global learning and intercultural pedagogy throughout the Northeastern educator community, using best practices and research in the field. The AD creates and maintains a repository of creative solutions to curricular integration and global learning developed by Northeastern departments and colleges and develops a system of sharing such innovations across the University.

Along with the Director of Academic Integration and Planning, the AD acts as GEO's liaison to the academic departments and Colleges, helps develop advising tools integrating global experiences into degree progression, and ensures that GEO materials and advising practices accurately reflect curricular requirements and college policies. The AD conducts workshops around curriculum integration, course mapping, intercultural and global learning with Northeastern colleges and departments and create program and curriculum integration guides for students. In conjunction with the Director of Academic Integration & Planning, the AD will collaborate with the relevant colleagues in the Office of the Chancellor to ensure complementary and integrated course offerings in visiting student programs on Northeastern regional campuses. The AD contributes to the success of GEO's inter-team strategy groups - teams of advisors, program designers, and managers of program operations - who collaborate to ensure quality of programming and continuity of services to GEO's key audiences - by keeping everyone up-to-date on the latest developments and needs in curricular integration across the University.

The Associate Director oversees an Academic Coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master's degree required.
• 4+ years of academic administrative experience in higher education required. Experience in a university-level study abroad office a plus.
• 2+ years of experience working with curriculum.
• Working knowledge of the US Higher Education administration and familiarity with international higher education systems, degree structures and progressions, pedagogies and methodologies, and approaches to credits and grades.
• Working knowledge of higher education systems outside of the United States.
• Previous experience studying abroad at the undergraduate level or time living abroad.
• Demonstrated commitment to international education and the promotion of cross-cultural understanding.
• Understanding of NAFSA (Association of International educators), professional ethics and competencies.
• Excellent problem-solving and strong analytical skills with proven ability to strategize, prioritize, and multi-task to meet goals and deadlines.
• Strong interpersonal skills, sufficient to work effectively and collaboratively with a number of different constituencies. Professionalism and collegiality in a team environment, excellent judgment, discretion, and the ability to make decisions in a timely manner.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, including intercultural and interpersonal communication.
• Ability to effectively represent the University to outside institutions and universities
• Ability to interact with global program representatives, faculty, and students in a highly professional manner with an understanding of protocol and confidentiality.
• Strong organizational, project management, administrative, and computer skills.
• Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office software required. Familiarity with Salesforce, Terra Dotta, and student record systems (e.g., Banner) preferred.
• Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Academic Integration of Global Experiences -

• Build and maintain extensive familiarity with the Northeastern University curricula and GEO's partners' curricula through research and communications with departments and colleges.
• Maintain and continue to improve a comprehensive analysis of GEO partner strengths, uniqueness, and areas of availability, to draw upon and bring to the attention of departments and Northeastern administrators.
• Acts as a GEO liaison to Northeastern departments and colleges by articulating how global programming can enhance and further distinguish them and their curricula.
• In conjunction with the colleges, identify gaps in Northeastern curricula and areas for enhancement. Engage other constituents such as the relevant colleagues in the Offices of the Chancellor and the Provost, other colleges, global network campuses, etc. to determine if particular gaps and needs are widespread; recommend solutions.
• In conjunction with the department heads or their designees, build intentional study abroad programming into their curriculum.
• Enhance the academic experience of Northeastern students by creating global learning curricula and integrating global learning across the university
• Propose academic enhancements to department's curricula by pairing the strengths of international partner's curricular with gaps or areas of opportunity in Northeastern's curriculum.
• Create “integration maps”/major guides and advising sheets for majors and minors incorporating international programs into their curricula.
• Work closely with Northeastern University faculty and academic advisors to identify courses abroad that best address the needs of students and complement the academic offerings of each unit.
• Create and maintain a repository of best practices and creative solutions to curricular integration developed by Northeastern departments and colleges. Develop a system of sharing the best practices and innovation across the University.
• In conjunction with the Director for Academic Integration & Planning, collaborate with the relevant colleagues in the Office of the Chancellor to ensure complementary and integrated course offerings in visiting student programs on Northeastern regional campuses.
• Provide guidance and academic alignment solutions to partner inquiries (Colleges, Departments, etc.).
• Review institution's accreditation, credits and grading scale and collaborate with GEO Registrar and the University Registrar's office to determine Northeastern equivalents.

Relationship Building and Partnership Cultivation -

• Develop deep and long-lasting relationships in the colleges.
• Act as GEO liaison to departments and Colleges, ensuring that updates and modifications to curriculum are properly reflected in GEO's programs and advising practice.
• Partner with the Center for Advanced Teaching and Learning through Research (CATLR) to develop and deliver innovative programming on global learner for Northeastern's educator community.
• Partner with the Advising Team to identify and address real and perceived curricular barriers to study abroad.
• Partner with the Program Development Team to conduct periodic partnership assessment.
• Contribute to GEO effectiveness by keeping regional “pods” and inter-team strategy groups informed and up-to-date on the latest developments and needs in curricular integration across the University.

Training, Events, & Guides -

• Create program and curriculum integration guides for students.
• Conduct workshops around academic integration, global learning, intercultural pedagogy, and course mapping with Northeastern colleges and departments.

GEO Project -

• Participate in GEO and university projects as necessary
• Lead GEO projects as necessary.
• Oversee applicable Standard Operating Procedures.
• Liaise with other Northeastern departments as needed
• Other duties as assigned.
