Position Announcement
The Art & Design Department at Utah Valley University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Graphic Design to begin August 2023. We seek a compelling artist and a collaborative educator whose duties will include: teaching undergraduate graphic design courses; engaging in peer-reviewed scholarship activities; serving on department, school, and university committees; and serving as the graphic design program coordinator on a rotational basis. Teaching topics include graphic design theory, typography, branding, portfolio creation, and installation design.
The candidate is expected to demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence, as well as to teaching diverse learners and modeling inclusive practices. The search committee encourages applicants with a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, and expertise to apply. We welcome applications from candidates whose record of scholarship, teaching, and/or service strengthens the department's ability to offer diverse perspectives and culturally responsive mentorship to our students.
UVU, located in Orem, Utah, is a comprehensive state institution of higher education with over 40,000 students. Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with an MFA in graphic design or a related field to the coursework being taught is required. Terminal degree or equivalent in graphic design, or related field of study. Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities
Knowledge:
- Graphic design history, graphic design theory, typography,
branding, portfolio creation, installation design.
- Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.
- Apple Macintosh systems and software.
Skills:
- Course instruction.
- Student project evaluations and critiques.
- Student motivation.
Abilities:
- Course curriculum development.
- Interpersonal relationships and communication.
- Maintain a safe, empathetic, and empowering class
environment.
- Model inclusive practices
