Position Description

The School of Music at Texas State University seeks an engaging, creative, collaborative, and dedicated teacher/scholar to serve as a tenure-track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor of Voice.

The successful candidate will be expected to:
· Teach undergraduate and graduate applied voice lessons.
· Prepare student degree recitals.
· Instruct courses in diction for singers, vocal literature (art song and opera), and/or vocal pedagogy.
· Professional activity in the fields of vocal performance and/or vocal pedagogy is expected.
· Provide service to the School, College, University, community, and profession, including recruitment.
· Specific duties assigned by the Director of the School of Music.

Required Qualifications

For the Assistant Professor rank:
· Doctorate in vocal performance or related field (must be completed by time of appointment), or equivalent professional experience.
· Documented ability and success in training voices of all types and developmental levels at the collegiate level.
· Experience teaching diction, song literature, opera literature, and/or vocal pedagogy.
· A record of achievement in vocal performance and/or vocal pedagogy publication and demonstrated potential for further professional growth.
· Demonstrated success in student recruitment.
· Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

In addition, for the Associate Professor rank:
· Minimum six years of full-time university teaching.
· A record of teaching, scholarly activities, and service commensurate of tenure at Texas State University
· A sustained record of achievement in vocal performance and/or vocal pedagogy publication resulting in national recognition and stature.

To be eligible for hire at the associate professor rank, candidate must meet the requirements for that rank as established by the school. The successful applicant will receive the appropriate rank and title based on university and school established standards.

Preferred Qualifications

· Tenor, bass-baritone, or bass voice types preferred, but all voice types considered.
· Experience in curriculum development and innovation.
